Koralia evo makes noise on start up

Hi I'm new to this site so I figured I would just jump in with a question. I'm setting up a new 90 gal reef and have two koralia evolution pumps moving water. The tank doesn't even have salt in it yet but has been running for about a week now with fresh water. I have a reef keeper elite making waves and every time it changes a cycle they make noise on startup I have read a couple other threads on this but I would like a little more input. Is there any way I can stop the noise it's not really loud but if I can stop it I would like to.

It is normal for the Evolutions to make a clicking sound on start-up. It's the impeller hitting that little rubber tit on the front cover. It keeps it from starting in reverse. I would suggest you take it off of the wavemaking function. Even though they tout them as being able to do this, they will eventually knock or suck that little rubber tit out, and now run in reverse. I've seen it first hand.

Thanks, is there any way maybe using another system that stops it? Or am I stuck with either on all of the time or noise and eventual parts replacement?

I've been running 4 of them for a couple years on a JBJ wavemaker. Mine run in reverse sometimes, even though the little bumper is still there. It's not an issue since they go normal on next start up. I've got them turning on and off every 30 seconds. So, far it seems they break the cover bumper off once a year. I just call Hydor and they send me new ones at no charge. For the most part they operate the way I want.

Way back, before I got my MP-10's, I ran two EVO's on my reef keeper and the same clicking noise drove me nuts! I tried 10s, 30s, 1min, 5min, and I eventually just had them switch every hour.

I have read on numerous threads about mp 10's and 40's and there performance sounds great I just spent way to much money to get this tank going and really can't afford them right now maybe at a later date. I have also read that they make a lot of noise is this true?

Depends on who you talk to and how old the pumps are. They do get a little loud up in the 80-100% range. But most of the time I can not hear them over the noise from my skimmer. I do have one that is over 3 years old and it might be time to replace the bearings in that one.

I actually think they can be loud. I think you get used to the noise but they are kind of noisy. I recently purchased 3 tunze 6105 and like them a lot. Very quite.

Any issues with the tunze's on wave makers? How many gallons Per hour are the 6105's. And how is the cost. I haven't even looked into those.
