Krylon Fusion paint

I under estimated the amount of acrylic I need for my sump- black is much more expensive. I can get clear at Lowes and it will be in chambers that won't get any/much light. I see that Krylon's Fusion paint is reef safe- wondering if anyone has used it and if it holds up

@DYIguy I wouldn’t put anything in saltwater that you don’t want into the system. Saltwater is very corrosive and always wins overtime. I wouldnt put anything painted in contact with water

Every thing I read about Krylon Fusion says it's reef safe- I just wonder how it holds up, will it flake off, can I brush it to get algae off etc

But doesn’t look like it’s in contact with the water. Which is fine. I wouldn’t submerge anything painted

My son has some leftover window tint he’s not going to use. It’s fairly dark and you could alway use two layers. Remind me to give it to you Thursday when you come for your corals.

Didn't think about that- I tried tinting windows in a car years ago- not my best day lol

Have used Fusion many times in the past. My previous sump on my 90g had fusion painted parts in it for years. Never flaked, never caused a porblem that I was aware of.

Krylon fusion is fine. I have some pieces painted that have been under the water for over 3 years. No problem. No flaking.

Just wanted to add here, in case you go the Krylon route.
The cause of problems with paint insn't the paint itself, its the VOCs the paint gives off while curing.
Technically you can use any spraypaint, it just has to fully cure and that's usually where concerns are.
Krylon is the paint most often considered as it fully cures in under a week.
Remember, 'dry' does not mean 'cured'. Dry paints can kill tanks, cured paints are, for the most part, inert.
Anytime I've used Krylon I let it sit a solid week at room temperature before putting it in water.
Any other sprays I've used I let sit for 2-4 weeks for a full cure before it hits water.
