So I have been sick for a few days and haven't got much done. I primed and painted the doors. I put the second coat in them yesterday after work and when I got to the shop today a rag had fallen off the shelf next to where the doors were drying and ruined the one. After work today I sanded that door down, re-primed it and put a coat of paint on them.

Here's the doors with one coat

And the stand with the "good" door mounted

Looking great Kevin! Paint the inside of that puppy white and you are ready to go.....even if it's just primer paint.

Thanks Paul. The plan is to get the inside painted this weekend and hopefully start working on a sump. What kind of paint would you recommend? Latex?

My favorite paint is Kilz Complete....It stinks to high heaven, but sticks like grim death. It's oil based and dries very fast. It's a primer, but you could just go with this as the finish coat as well or cover it with a good exterior latex. Oh, and it's white in color.

Got a little extra time today and took it to modify an acrylic sump that was laying around to fit my needs. The sump was too long to fit in the stand and the baffles were set lower than I would have liked.

Here is the sump:

I first cut the sump down by 2.25"

After that I extended the baffles by about 4.5" and put in a new end panel.

Leak test will be Sunday to give the bond enough time to fully cure. Fingers are crossed!

Sump dimensions are 27.75"x14"x16" with a water level at 10". So it will hold about 17 gallons with about 10 gallons freeboard which will be plenty.

Leak test was successful! I'm very excited as it was my first time working with acrylic when it needed to be water tight. Have my old rock soaking in some water and vinegar now. Hoping to bring it to the shop to cure for a little while. I'm hoping to bring the tank, stand, and sump home next weekend and get started on the plumbing.

Nice work on the stand and the sump. Is there a formula for how high the baffles are suppose to be? Like 75% or 67% etc of the overall height.

Thank you. There's no real formula for baffle height. The main thing to consider is how much water will come back to the sump from your tank and plumbing when you shut the tank down or lose power. This way when the tank is shut down there is enough room or "freeboard" for the excess water in the sump. This will vary from tank to tank.

I will be picking up the return pump(jeabo dc-6000) either sometime during the week or at the DVRC swap. Still working on light rails but once I have the pump and light rails I hope to get everything together fairly quickly.

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for this. I have seen a "switch" that automatically turns on a light inside a cabinet when the door is opened. I have been looking for one with no luck. Anyone seen this or know where to find one?

The builds coming along great Kevin!

That pressure switch looks interesting. My only concern would be that it appears to not be fully enclosed and therefore may be susceptible to corrosion with all the moisture in the stand. My suggestion would be to coat (everything but the switch) with plasti dip. I've never used the spray can version, but I'd say that might be a better option than dipping for this job.

Brought the tank, stand and sump home today and put it in place. Light rails will be picked up tomorrow and also hopefully painted after work.
