You are not a man of your word. You offered it to me and asked me when I can come get it. I replied today after 3pm in which you replied sorry someone is already coming to pick it up.

You are of low moral standards!

MODERATORS

I'd like to suggest that all offers and acceptances in these forums be conducted on the boards and not via PMs it leads to too many dirt dealings.

i'm really sorry about the situation.

when you sent me your pm, it was still available and i asked you "Hi there, let me know when you can pick up. I have a couple of others who are interested. Thx!!" and i even included my cell #. i got a bunch of other PMs saying they can pick up right away. So in between your first pm and your reply back on when you can pick up, the cap got sold.

i apologize for the misunderstanding.

I disagree about offers and acceptances being done in the fourms and not in pm. As a seller if someone says they want it you have to give them enough time to set up the details of the sale. If I was selling a popular item or something that was at a great price where I knew there would be a lot of demand, I usually would post a time frame for the offer to be completed in the original post. This way the seller is covered from situations like this. Now I dont know the exact time details as to when you said you will take it and when you sent a pm saying you want to come get it but when something like this that is obviously a steal of a deal would go for significantly higher in a local lfs, you need to respond and try to finalize the deal as quickly as possibly. Based on the price the OP is obviously not in this to make money but wants to make sure his coral goes to a good home. Time is of the essence when you find a great deal and need to jump on it as soon as you can.

Within 4 minutes of his post I posted "I'll take it"

He PMd me the following:

Hi there, let me know when you can pick up. I have a couple of others who are interested. Thx!!

Jun

with which I replied

I can pick it up today after 3pm does that work for you?
Where can we meet?

Then immediately replies
hi sorry, someone is on the way to pick up already. i didnt realize there would be so much interest. if it falls through i will let you know.

That was an offer and acceptance, then via PM from someone else I'm out. Is that how you do business?

All offers and acceptances should be done on the forum and not in back room deals. After the offer and acceptances are done the specifics can be hammered out in PMs.

Now I understand what happening when some offers something in the forums then someone replies PM sent, that seems shady to me, what's the big secret?

I think allowing this practice to continue will be a great disservice to the membership and needs to be changed. If dirty dealings are allowed to continue there will be no trust among the membership

When it comes down to it the seller has complete freedom to choose who he or she would like to or not like to sell to for whatever reason they may have. I'm not saying this was the case but just that there is no transaction until money or goods have changed hands.

I for one sell a lot of things, car parts, fish stuff, computer stuff, whatever. I can not COUNT how many times I've gotten a "ill buy it today" or whatever it may be for the person to never even reply. I don't owe anyone anything, so I'm not waiting unless I know you pretty well or someone vouched for you. Sorry, just how it is in this world of craigslist flakers.

Best way to buy something, post, send a pm, and include your number or something specific. It lets the seller know your serious and its not just an impulse reaction to a good deal or something flashy that you might back out on. I'm sorry this happened to you but I can completely understand where the seller is coming from here and in any similar situation.

dude, there was almost 40 minutes between me PMing you "Hi there, let me know when you can pick up" and your reply "I can pick it up today after 3pm does that work for you?". so i am saying between those 40 minutes, someone else definitively said they can pick up immediately. and it's someone who i've never dealt with in the past. so i dont get where you keep saying it's a "dirty deal". i don't think my first PM to you meant you got it. i was asking when you can pick up. as a matter of fact, someone else PM'd me before you, but he was going to pick up tomorrow afternoon. i wanted to get the coral out asap and didn't want to wait another day so he didn't get the coral either.

im sorry you missed out on this one and i take responsibility for the misunderstanding.

Sorry, just how it is in this world of craigslist flakers.

I would never compare this membership to craigslist flakers. Unlike craigslist this is a club with members. Are we not doing the club a disservice by by not outing those who don't keep promises. I get it that some people say they want something and never follow through either for legitimate reasons or not, but isn't better to ferret people like that out, instead of letting losers lurk in the shadows like craigslist.

This is exactly my point, the alleged PM came in before I posted yet you still responded as if its mine "when can you pick it up?" As you said. Regardless you asked when and gave it to someone else before given a chance to respond. Had PMs not been considered acceptable means of accepting an offer this misunderstanding would have never happened. This isn't about me and you. This is about practices and conduct that need to be spelled out so something like this doesn't happen again. This is why transactions should be in the open and not in the shadows of PMs. I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with doing business out in the open.

Honestly my first instinct when I read your reply was someone you knew asked you and you obliged them because you knew them and not me. But your last reply doesn't indicate that.

BTW who was the luck person who got it?

the guy who got it was from brooklyn as this same frag was posted on another site. its a $15 dollar frag....dont let it ruin your day.

You are really hurt over this aren't you, sheesh. You miss the point. He didn't promise anything to you. Period.

What was the name? What's this other site you speak of? Other forums I'm a member of don't allow you to make offers on other sites. BTW these are unrelated to reefing. Maybe that should also become one of the rules.

It didn't ruin my day, but if I can effect change that will prevent someone else having to go through this again it would definitely make my day. And that's the point.

Yeah, all you're really doing is making everyone on here NOT wanna do business with you. Just saying like every one else, its $15. Get over it

oh my god get over it and move on with your life. it was a 15.00 piece for gods sake. lol

No disrespect to anyone it's not about the $15 frag it's how business is allowed to be conducted on here. I keep saying that but for some reason people don't get it.

Are you new here as your join date and post count suggests or are you an old member who re-joined? Im just curious because you seem to be extremely adamant on how the site and club should be run, and it seems as if you havent really been around long enough to even get a feel for the club completely. Ill tell you this much, as a member for the last 5 or 6 years, i have had hundreds of transactions back and forth with club members and i have yet to find a single ill-hearted person in the entirety of my dealings. Im sorry you didnt get your way but throwing a temper tantrum and demanding that the entire club should be catered to how YOU wish things to be run is absolutely the wrong way to go about things.

Tell you what, Ill buy a frag of red cap, grow it out to the size of the OP's, and when the time comes, you can have it. for free. Just drop it dude. He had no obligation to sell it to you or anyone else on here. It is the sellers decision ultimately and he never even promised it to you in the slightest bit.

Also, about the whole listing on other sites thing, the more the merrier. You are trying to sell something. If you can expand your market by posting on other sites, why not. I dont recall any rule about that around here whatsoever.
