LE Corals

Over the last couple days i have been looking at various sites and alot of sites distinguish some corals as Limited Edition. Well since most corals grow and replicate themselves how can a coral be Limited Edition? If your able to frag it and it looks exactly the same its not really limited.

Some of the chalices ive seen are amazing great colors but 250 300 a frag. Elffo for a 500 a frag.

Is it hype?

Who says its limited and what makes it a "limited edition."

it all comes down to supply and demand. Its like "if you cant afford...someone else can" type of thing. Hell if I could put my name on a rare coral and charge a butt load to help pay my mortgage, you know i would ;D

It's all in the marketing. You're not gonna shell out $250 if I said, "common" now would you? Exclusive, limited, rare, first to own. Good buzzwords aren't they?

I only have/keep common corals now *sigh*

I remember a time when they were just called purple Montipora digitatas or Green Montipora capricornis or Acropora tortuosa or Pink millepora.....nowadays, it's like: LE nuke-lear Chartreuse montipora cap reverse or something. I miss the good old days

but I'm proud to say- All but one of my boys are completely home raised and grown!

Just to correct you the 500efflo is a name of the coral but doesn't mean its 500.00

On RC thy were selling them for that.

its cool to say you have corals and fish that not alot of other people have.

My bad Steve, it was a large peice like like 6 inches around.

Since ive bought LE stuff before im guilty as well but i was wondering if there was a guy in pacific who gets all the nice corals and slowly releases them into the maintstream.

Anyone wanna show off some pics of their LE's, I will!

Also im curious to know for MACNA is it possible to get an exporter to come speak? Someone who handles the other side of the trade. I would love to see how an operation works.

some of these corals have bin propagated for years and years, and they are proven to be more hardy and hold there color. I would pay 100 for a top quality tank raised frag from a fellow reefer any day then pay 100 for a huge wild colony that turns brown or dies in a week. You get what you pay for...

any sellers, selling LE, super rare, super super rare, ultimate super duper rare and all the other so called names are just selling ploys don't get sucked in unless it's something you really want and like. Don't just buy a coral because it says LE or rare. There is only one place to check for real LE corals and if a seller is trying to get top dollar then asking for proof of lineage is recommended, some people will say they have rare LE corals but they are wild caught and similar to the real ones which are usually aquacultured for years.
