So the dumbass had the screen top off the tank yesterday while doing some tank maintenance and, at the same time, trying to watch the final four games. While sitting in the living room, I hear this banging noise, and at first though it was a noise coming from the dishwasher that was running. After about a minute I went to investigate, and when I entered the fish room I could hear flopping….oh crap. And of course, the fish has to jump out the back of the tank, between the wall and the tank, about three feet from reaching him.
The blue throat trigger had jumped. My wife and I started to scramble to find something to reach the fish and get him back into the tank. I went for a piece of wood that was too difficult to move the fish into reach. My wife eventually showed up with a fluffy duster on a long pole. I was able to nudge the fish into reach using the fluffy duster.
This all took about five minutes, and the fish immediately went to the bottom of the tank, upside down. It stayed that way for a few minutes, and then darted into the rocks not to be seen that night. I was not happy!
I was out all day today and recently got home to find the trigger swimming about. The right side of the fish shows some slight signs of injury, but otherwise he seems happy.
That screen top is now staying on at all times unless I’m in the room working on the tank!
