Lets see your freshwater tanks!

Really nice. I can remember when I first wanted to keep discus being told how "impossible" they are to keep alive, and how even more impossible they were to breed in a home aquarium! LOL! My, how times change...

I kept them for a while, that and south american dwarf cichlids. Discus were by far my favorite though.

Wow fantastic Rod. Puts my freshwater fish to shame. I take it you do all the water changes and time to keep them so well?

daily 25% on the 30gal and 55gal; 50% change on the 37gal with the young babies.
a lot more work then my reef...

i always believed that reefs were harder to maintain than the fresh tanks i had. Planted high tech setups are more work and so are discus. Reefs just seem to be more expensive.

a high tech planted discus tank "Amano Style" may be one of the most difficult things to maintain in the whole aquarium world!

Adult Discus are not that demanding, grow outs and breeders are demanding!

Daily water changes are a pain that I am not willing to undertake for freshwater.
But they are truely beautiful fish.

Re: Lets see your freshwater tanks! WOW

Wow! Missed this thread! I have a few freshwater tanks too ... :)

Here's a live view into one of the Cichlid tanks, 125g - or go to www.sandeeland.com/fishcam for the streaming video ...

Great tanks,I was thinking when I get the tanks in order to go discus, maybe with the 55 gal and have the 125 saltwater..if my wife would let me I'd have a tank or two in every room..lol

HOLY CRAP! Water change day at your place must be a NIGHTMARE! LOL!

Do you have nightmares about power outages??

Seriously, awesome. Wish I had the space. I'd have tanks everywhere!

<< HOLY CRAP! Water change day at your place must be a NIGHTMARE! LOL! >>

... I've never checked my water bill - I pay it with my eyes closed!

<< Do you have nightmares about power outages? >>

We have the Hurricane emergency air pumps on most of the tanks (or splitting them to a few diff. tanks). I worry about the filters going off, then shooting yucky stuff back in the tanks after. UUgg. BUT. So far, so good - never any bad outages in this area. Fingers crossed ...

Yes - if I had MORE room, we'd have MORE tanks too! As a matter of fact, it's not a 'must have' for our future house some day. Unofficially looking - and always looking at where we could put the tanks. The priority is: Garage space, solid floor, tank space with access to water! ;)

Hey, how cool is this - house with reef lagoon for rent in Hawaii!

Sandee that house in Hawaii is amazing! I think Im planning my next trip now! Heres a pic of my 10 gal Tanganikyian Shell dwellers Lamp. Brevis. Got 3 pairs right away, and went on vacation to Jamaica. When I got home, I had about 35 fry swimming around! In less than 2 weeks they bred! About 4 made it and paired off, so now I have 5 pairs in a 10! No real aggression, and Im waiting on my brothers 25 tall to transfer them into. This is a pic from when I first set it up.

Does this count? It's my attempt at a Paludarium, even though I cheated a little. Not all plants are alive. But some are. The setup houses 5 fat, happy Fire Belly Toads and an assortment of guppies that just won't quit reproducing on me. ::) The idea was that the toads would eat some of the guppy fry, but they only do that when I let them go hungry. In turn, the guppies don't have a problem gobbling up the toads' eggs. :-X

The setup is small. Only a 29 gallon. But it was tons of fun setting it up. :) And it's REALLY low maintenance, too.
