Lighting...

Im planning to set up a standard 75 gallon tank and I cant decide on lights. I wanted to go with T5s but not sure which to get. I was thinking about getting the ATI 4x54w fixture or the current usa 4x54w. Would 4 bulbs be enough or would I need 6 for a mixed reef, sps/lps/softies. Or should I go LEDs.... Cant decide.

on my 75 which was mostly sps I had the 6 bulb fixture which gave me more options to play with colors. if you go 4 bulb you are stuck with only a few colors and I don't think it will spread that nice.

I would think that if you wanted SPS on a 75, you’d be better off with a six bulb T5 unit.

However, I’d go LED. I switched from T5's to LEDs. If you’re budget conscious, check out Reefbeeders. They sell very nice LEDs at reasonable costs.

Also relies that if you go T5 route, you’re looking at bulb replacement at least once a year. Six bulbs at 20-25 bucks a piece add up real quick. With LEDs, no yearly bulb replacement, and your energy costs are less.

If you go with T5, I would go with a 6 bulb fixture. However, I have had LED's on my reef for the last 2 years and I would not have anything else on my tanks.

I have 2 smaller reefbreeders on my 55. Love them and you can't beat the price.

Yea im pretty sure those are the ones im going to get. I was looking at the 48" programmable one but im not sure if i want to shell out the extra money for it.

That light is at the top of my "buy myself a present for my birthday in August" list for my 90. I've played with the smaller programmable ones & they're great. at that price for an overkill even on a 120G fixture you cannot go wrong.

I think if the photon32 would work i might get it compared to 2 of the standard fixtures they have

the price difference between the 32 & 48 isn't crazy(50$) if you're going to go photon, I'd just get the 48 in case you upgrade(which you'll want to once you setup the 75 lol)

Yea thats true, I have to see if i want to get that or just the two standard fixtures. Having it programmable would be awesome though.

I love the programming. I really haven't had to touch it since setting up the photon. I use the remote sometimes too.

Yea the programming is nice, im not sure yet, im already on a tight budget so i dont know if i want to put out the extra for the photon48 over the 2 standard fixtures.
