Live rock question

Very simple, use "regular Clorox" and water. All of my rock, which I collected I bleached in the hotel room before I brought it on the plane. No live rock was used in those days. The bleach will oxidize all of the dead organisms which are still in that ereock then after air drying, all of the bleach, which is just chlorine gas in water, will evaporate and you can safely use the rock.
But use only "Regular" bleach, no scents or you may kill all of your animals in seconds.
Don't ask

Actually you can bleach live rock with no ill effects. Just have to make sure you use some dechlorinator afterward or let it dry in the sun for a day or so. I bleach rock all the time and re use it.
Thanks buddy thats all i was trying to say but someone wants to get into what its made of and thats not what i had intended...And JRWHOLER are you threating me or whats the word harrasing me...

I see I am a paranoid person about this but both compounds if introduced into your tank can be poisonous. Since the person had a low post count I considered them to be a newbie perhaps incorrectly but I would hate to see them put rock soaked in either then "rinsed" off directly into their tank.
Would like to point out that all the guys who commented Matt and Paul in particular are experienced reefers way beyond me. But what they may consider common sense a newbie may not. BTW the Clorox with the fresh smell to it has caught more then one experienced reefer. So what you take for granted may screw up a less experienced reefer.

And know I am not harrassing you but why does everyone spell my name wrong? ???

We all have tolerance levels of what we'll introduce into our tanks. Some may soak/rinse even the most benign substances off of things before putting them in their tank. Others live a little closer to the edge and as James says sometimes we don't always explain enough for a potential newbie.

But none of that matter as much as our treatment of one another in these forums. Let's please continue to respect the opinions of others and take the arguments to PM where they don't disrupt the flow of threads in the forums.

Thanks for your cooperation. This is supposed to be a friendly community. We all need to step back and remember that's what built this community and that's what we need to get back to. In the end if we all jump down each other's throats we're not going to have much left here other than nasty tones and short-lived posters.

well then those ho spoken were telling the same thing is was but no need for drama.I like to help new reefers as well its just some people claim to know it all when all they kno is their way of reefing.MAtt and MIke and whoever else know lots but they know there method the best which is why you cannot just listen to mods they have there own method to madness. what i was saying is that bleach will cause ammonia levels to rise in a tank if not properly cleaned...am i wrong..didnt think so..anyways clean your rock and put up some new tank pics wanting to see how the tank turns out

I am like a granny driver when it comes to doing things for my tank. ;D I am also really unlucky so I make sure to take as many precautions as possible.

You are probably right if you have enough clorine to kill your benificial bacteria waste will likely spike your ammonia levels.
