Llama?

I am a newbie, so maybe someone can explain this to me. What is a llama and how does one become a llama? This really sounds like a stupid question.

For some reason, the old forum software defaulted all new users with the caption "I am a llama". I never quite got a straight answer as to why it was there or why it was a llama but here are some funny theories on the subject. The new forum software doesn't do that anymore.

I did some searching and it looks like it's an inside joke by the developers of the software. Some kind of Monty Python reference.
