Imho this is the worst part of the hobby. These require so much watching. If something goes wrong while you're away your babysitter better have an understanding of your system. My wife and I want to travel when we retire, just extended weekend trip type stuff but with no one to help I'll very likely be done at that point.
You need to make it simple. I use an auto feeder that feeds every 2 days. I have a 5g ATO reservoir and leave 20g/25g of RODI for top off. Water levels are marked with painters tape so the person watching has a better view of what to check. I had my neighbor just add water to the ATO when it reached that tape level. I also have a camera so I can pop in and look at the main tank. I also had a NJRC member on stand-by in case of an emergency. So far this has worked well for me and usually a way for 7 days.
I think that's the same guy that mnat uses. From what I understand he's one handsome son of a bit^%.
