Losses due to hurricane sandy

First off, i didnt know wherr to post this so please move accordingly.

After reading through many horror stories, I can only begin to imagine what it's like to lose your tank. All the money gone in days, not to mention the attachment that we have to certain fish or corals that can never be replaced.. I was thinking it would be nice if anyone able to donate a frag or two could do so. We can add up the total and split it between all the victims in the club. Would anyone else be willing? I have a few I'd be happy to give

Yes, of course many of us would be willing.

I have a few that I will be happy to donate.

I think our main problem will be getting everyone together to collect them. Maybe we can just do it at monthly club meetings? We typically do them rotating from north to central to south, so if we just did this for say Jan, Feb, and March... that might be feasible.

Any other opinions, options or ideas?

Yes. I have some frags I can donate as well. I hope not to be a victim do to lack of gas in the generator. :)

I can tell you it does suck. I had just started my new 40 breeder. My 90 gal was full of beautiful corals, mushrooms, zoas, sps, lps, a huge bubble coral, and about 8" round beautiful hammer. Everything is lost after 4 days without power. All the money, hard work, everything gone out the window. I just got power back and trying to get back to normal but i keep passing my tanks wondering if i will even start these tanks again. I am not in your club but i can definitely s how this would be a wonderful thing to do. Now i am happy my family and friends are safe, i also realize many people still don't have power. I know what they are going through. Good idea and i hope it works. Good luck guys...

I don't have much to donate as my stuff is still in the grow out phase, but I have decided that on my next visit to shawn (zoanut) I am going to toss him a couple of extra bucks to give someone a frag who lost theirs. I encourage all of his customers to do the same.

That's a nice idea. Anyone that reads this and has suffered losses from the storm is welcome to pm me and I will try and give them a few frags

We could also at are next meeting have like an auction where people could bring coral and we could do some kind of bidding and the money could go to the people that lost stuff because dry goods can be costly or the club could buy gift cards with money from some of are venders

You know it's funny. I Lost everything but these damn xenia are in that middle stage where out is extended but clenched up. I'm sure it will disappear. But I'll be fumed if this stuff is only thing that lives. Lol.

So far I lost two triggers :/, the other fish seem to be doing okay for the most part though. This whole situation just really stinks! my heart goes out to everyone who lost their homes and tanks!

I haven't had much of a chance to get on. I work for AAA and the shifts have been unreal due to backlog of calls. I will put out a can to collect some money for people who need stock to rebuild. On top of that, everyone knows they usually get a few extra their first couple times out here. We'll help these guys and girls pull through the best we can.

I would donate but not sure what I even have left anymore... I had a coral that nothing could kill but it looks like Sandy took it out but we will see. I lost 9 out of 11 fish unless something comes creaping out but my biggest loss was my pair of Clarkii's that I bought from a guy on Reefcentral when I first started the hobby, these guys were old and mean little b*stards but were pretty awesome. Now all I see in my tank are Majano's and my two purple tangs, I don't think even the random mushrooms survived... At least I have power now, if the unknown coral that nothing else could ever kill survives I will frag that up for people, I have no clue what it is exactly but it's pretty neat.

So i finally got some picks... Started over and rescaped my 40 breeder. I bleached some skeletons although they are not going in the tank. Cleaned my rock and put them back. Some corals still stuck to them :(.
