Lucky to be employed...

Walked in to work today to get an urgent message to join a call with our managing director, except instead of him, it was our senior HR rep who got on and told me my boss, and his boss were both let go effective immediately. I now report to a director in London.

Phew....just another day at the office. glad to be employed still but this merry-go-round is far from over, no doubt I'll get re-org'd to another director before this month is over.

I guess layoffs will continue until this economy turns around.

Lets see….three o’clock in the afternoon….must still be at work….and today you dodged a bullet….and you are abusing your employer by spending time on the NJRC website!

WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU….GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND GET BACK TO WORK, OR YOU’LL BE THE NEXT ONE TAKING A BULLET!

LMAO. Well the new boss is in london, and it's well past "pub" time (as they call it there). Of course the downside is that he's up at work at 3AM ET.

Seriously though I think he's going to regret it because of the amount of work I have that requires sign-off and he's going to see the brunt of it since my prior boss didn't care to do anything timely....

Phil,

glad to here that you still around.. we should really go out for lunch some day... ( being we worked so closed!! )

Yeah, this year isn't shaping up to be a good one. My place of work went through a reorg 2 months ago, my boss was let go and today there was another round due to cost cutting.

darn... what a chilling feeling.

My bro-in-law works thru a temp agency to inspect computer motherboards and other electrical circuit boards. Basically, he stares thru a microscope all day making sure that the welders did their job properly so that when they ship the item to their customers the things actually work. He has a boss that yells at him and all his co-workers constantly to try to get them to "work faster" so that more work gets done. It may seem like an easy job, but it's monotonous and you need to work hard to not miss any problems because everything he looks at looks the same. It's like a where's waldo puzzle, lol. He actually gets yelled at even more when he finds mistakes that need correcting (which is his job) where it slows production quantities, but at the same time prevents return issues later.

Anyway, he's been seeing a lot of people get laid off lately (luckily not him... yet) and the company he's working for just lost a renewal contract deal with a big current client. So, it's only a matter of time before he sees the axe too. He said that they actually just hired a new person a few weeks ago (in anticipation of getting the renewal deal and more work) and they called him in and let him go after only working there 1 week. My bro said he was a great worker too and he was crying/begging them to let him still work there but they still let him go.

It's tough out there people, so be thankful if you got a good thing going!

Phil,
You are lucky to be employed. This economy is horrible and it doesn't appear to be getting any better, contrary to what certain politicians say. Doug has been out of work since April, was offered a job in June, which promptly was cancelled by upper management. He is a finalist again at another company and we are waiting for the call saying he has the job. ; ) Gotta think positively!!

If anyone needs a job and has a resume I can help try to get them in with Progressive. We're expanding in NJ greatly this year and need about 60 new hires throughout the year. I've been there for 3 months and already got a raise and love my job although at time it can be stressful.

Merrill Lynch just cut rates of all contractors (like me by %5-%15 ). And I was told , employees got d--k for bonus.
So far in 2012 ML stock price is up %25.
Still, I think many companies are bracing for Euro fail.
