Made some Fresh RODI and filled up tank kinda stinks

SO i got my new starphire tank in place and setup... I went ahead and washed it out the best I could and so did the guy before me. I couldnt get into the over flows the way i wanted.. well I filled up the tank over two days and just started the pumps to get a feel for how it is... the water kinda stinks a bit... not overpowering...but still a little stinky.. I have not added salt yet... i'm thinking it was some dead sea stars in the over flow grooves and maybe 1 or 2 pieces of algae or something short of cleaning the entire tank... what can i do? I plan on runing some carbon through non stop.

not too sure which you want to clean? the inside of the overflow? or the tank?

anyway, for the inside of overflow, block all outlets, fill it up with vinegar (diluted with water), then put a maxi-jet in it, let it run for may be half a day or so, then rinse them... i have a wet/dry vacuum that you can borrow to suck every thing out for hard to reach area if needed.

I'm using E.S.V salt but I have not added it yet if my water is truly fouled.

So last night My tank finally finished filling and after draining the sump...sigh... and shifting it 6 inches to the right into the correct place ...*smack head for not realizing that...sooner* I got my return pump in place and started the water works.

UGH FOUL ODOR! - Not bad as dead snail but definitely funky.... I smelled the water and sure enough that was it..

2 Observations from my Tank Journal..

@ 1/2 tank full Sunday Night the water was crystal clear.
@ 80% tan full Monday night the water had "clouded slightly"
@ 100% full and pumps on.. it flushed out some little star fish that i guess were trapped in my overflow/pipes lines.. I believe they are responsible for the smell..

Last night I put my BRS reactor online with both cartridges filled with activated carbon at around midnight. This morning I barely smelled anything on the water.

After a couple of days you may want to change out the carbon.

Smell from the water is completely gone. I added salt last night and took the reactor off line. I think I'll run it for a few more days and then take it off line clean it up and use new carbon.
