Thanks.
I don't plan on painting the inside as I do not see the point because no one will see it.
I was thinking more of a clear waterproofing but not sure if that is worth the trouble either.

Mark, stand looks good!

As far as painting, you're not painting to make it look good, you're painting to protect the wood. I would suggest, at a minimum, painting with a primer. My new favorite primer is Kilz Complete. However, make sure you paint outside or very well ventilated room.

if you paint inside you do protect the wood and if its white it makes it easy to see inside with or without a lite, and also easy to clean up any mess you might make hope that helps 18fisher

I used kilz. But the latex one. In hind site I should have gone oil based.

That's the difference between regular Kilz and Kilz Complete. Kilz Complete is "oil based," and truly is stain covering. It sticks like grim death and won't fail as easily as the latex version.

The latex version will craze and peal if it is exposed to heat or moisture long term. Definitely go with the real deal Kilz and I like grey or white oil base porch paint as a final coat. If you are not going to go the distance leave the wood bare. At least then it wont drop flakes of paint in to your system.

Bax, the plan is put paneling around the stand. So the paint is just to protect the wood not for looks.

I plan on painting the stand this weekend and the bottom of the tank black.
What type of paint should I use on the glass bottom?

Thanks

Krylon fusion. Is the go to. I used it on the 90 and had no problems. I used rust oleum on my nano and had no probs with that either. I used 1 full can on the 90 but it could have used at least 1 more coat. The krylon can be had at Walmart you won't find fusion anywhere else. At least I couldn't.

I painted the back of my tank with the best paint money could buy……$0.99/can at Home Depot:

Realize there is no wear or stress factors with this paint job…..it just hangs there. I painted my tank about four years ago and it still looks like new.
