mag 7 pump

you guys think, that a mag 7 is strong enought to use for a return pump.

I was running a mag7 through a SCWD returning to my 65. I found that the mag7 wasn't able to push enough to compensate for the loss in flow caused by the SCWD. I've exchanged that for a 9.5 and am much happier with my flow.

If your return plumbing is simple enough you'll want to match your pump as closely as possible with your overflow box. My overflow box will do 600gph which is why I had figured on a 7. Without the SCWD the 7 probably would have been fine. With the SCWD the overflow keeps up well with the 9.5.

Is the mag 9.5 and SCWD all the flow you have on the 65??

Yeah Bill, for the most part. We do have one of those Whisper HOB's but that doesn't really add a lot in terms of flow. We're seeing some diatoms on the sand lately, so we'll probably have to put a few PH's in their too.

My current thinking is a SCWD on a closed loop and a dedicated return. Not sure what pump is coming with the setup, but there is supposed to be one. I'll find out tomorrow.
