not to open up a an of worms here but is there really a difference in bio-pellets? as far as effectiveness? I mean does the ecoBaK pellets perform better than the BRS pellets for example.

Yes there is a big difference. I know Warner Marine makes them for couple of the big names out there and that is because there Bio Pellets where crashing systems. I can not say who the Companies are because I do not want him to get into trouble!! So do not ask!! They went to Jon Warner because cause we have done major R&D testing on them before they ever went to market. I was testing them For almost year and a half before they hit the market.

+ 1. The only ones I would use personally are the Warner marine or brightwell.

I've been running the ecobak pellets since last summer. They don't seem to break down like the brs pellets do.

I guess I will be switching and trying out ecoBAK on my next build. I was using AquaMaxx Bio Pellets before and so no issues except for a cyano breakout.

You will find most people use ecoBAK and have little to no problems at all with them. That is what a lot of R&D and testing doses. They where not rushed to the market like most.
Also the slower the tumble the better they work!!

Dan one day I gotta figure out how to upload a vid. I might have mind moving a bit to fast not sure though. If you know how to do that let me know.

I've seemed to notice that when mine tumble too fast I get some cyano. I've ordered a RO reactor through our group buy to see if I can get a slower tumble. I'm also going to run the output to my skimmer.

Yes when you run them to fast you are stripping the bacteria off the pellets.
Mike put a valve on the out let of your pump going to you reactor and slow it down. This way the bacteria can colonize the pellets and start working.

I hope this Video work it will show you how slow I run my Pellets.

That's the problem I have a JNS reactor that has a 3/4 inch acrylic tube for an outlet and doesn't lend itself to putting a valve on it. Even at the slowest setting on the pump it has a strong vortex flow. I'm going to try the Octopus which should probably give a little better control.

Are you running you output directly to your MF251? I need to pull out my 201 to see what size tee will fit. I'm guessing that I'll need a 1 inch with some Teflon tape to get a tight fit.

I find that running the outlet to your skimmer makes no difference at all. I have tried it like that and running the out let right where it is. I could see no difference at all. I even check all my water parameters and that even showed no changes. That was some of the R&D I did for Jon Warner. I think people started to run there output to there skimmers because of all the problems the many companies had the there bad pellets. (coral bleaching and die off). So I think they started to put the out let at the input of there skimmers thinking it will help there die off.

Can you put a check valve at the out put of you pump going to the reactor? That is how mine is setup.

I'll give it a try Dan. Trying to figure it out now. Though I can say mine are running much faster then yours. The problem I've noticed with the RO reactor is that the pellets move much faster in some spots then others. When I figure out how to upload you'll see what I mean.

I am not a BIG fan of using RO canister as a Media Reactor. There is not enough surface area inside of them.

Nope the pump is built into the reactor.
Wow JNS makes some nice equipment. I can't believe they put no valve on the reactor. Is there anyway you can put one on the outlet of you reactor. If so I would and slow the tumble down.

Not without hacking it up. The outlet tube extends downward to a few inches above the bottom of the reactor. I could probably rig something up but then it probably wouldn't fit into my sump. It's really not a bad reactor I just think it isn't a good fit with the ecobak pellets which seem to need a slower flow.
