Maxi jet 1200 self disassembling

Been using these for years as my go to utility pumps...mixing saltwater, water changes, etc...I just picked up a new one and don't know if I am just getting senile or they changed the design or just a dud...but 9 out of 10 times I turn it on in a saltwater filled Brute can and watch it slowly disassemble itself. Have taken it apart and reassembled a few times. Even took apart another identical to it to see if I was just being stupid... can't see anything different..driving me bonkers. Probably putting way too much thought and effort into a $30 pump, but it's BRAND NEW....grrr

Did you get cobalt or marine land ? Marine land sucks.

Identical....Marinelands like I've always bought. It is like the magnet isn't strong enough to hold the shaft and propeller system in the pump. It starts up and then the shaft slowly starts to push the cover off and the whole assembly (protective cover, shaft, propeller, magnet and all) ends up on the bottom of the barrel. Happens even if I have the whole assembly angled up towards the surface. If I keep messing with it I can eventually get it to work, but this one just seems to be a dud.

I’ve always had issues with marine land. Switch to cobalt. Best thing and original

I am terrible with time, but I'd guess in 2012 Marineland decided to maximize profits over an established and quality pump, and redesign and have a Chinese company produce the MJ series of pumps, the MJ1200 being the premier pump of this line....with the "oldtimers" we all had one of more of these pumps. They were quality, made in Italy, and would last forever. So Marineland made this mistake (in my minds eye), but fortunately Cobalt pick up the slack, and continues to make the "MJ" pumps....still made in Italy. They are called Cobalt, but still have the MJ designation....a Cobalt MJ1200. DO NOT BUY A MARINELAND MAXIJET...they are garbage....crap....pieces of trash. BUY A COBALT.....yes, a few extra bucks, but will last forever!

Sorry David@wegetkraken. you own a piece of crap! If it were larger and heavier, I'd suggest a good boat anchor!

Lol, thanks. I only use them for mixing saltwater so no worries. Finally got it to stay together long enough to mix my last batch.
