Maxi-Jet Replacement

I'm not liking that they change Maxi-Jets!!!! I needed to order up two replacement Maxi-Jet 1200's and saw that they have changed these pumps. I don't like what I'm reading as far as the reviews. This is deja vu Koralia all over again. Am I being paranoid about ordering these new MJ's.....or is there some other similar small pump that has proven performance. Please help.

Yes, they are not good. I bought 2 and they both failed very quickly. I don't know if your using them for flow or as a pump, but as a pump I swtiched over to the small Sicce and Tunze. They are not as cheap, but so far reliable. Can't really say which one I like better yet.

Thanks for the response.......I did a little digging.

The original die-hard MJ's were made in Italy. These pumps are legends.....used in many different applications.....and had an excellent track record.

The new versions are made in China and do not have a good track record. Oh crap!

What specific Sicce and / or Tunze are you using? What's important to me is the diameter of the exit portion.

Further digging......

It looks like I can still purchase the original Italian MJ's .....but now under the name of Cobalt.....and a bit more expensive. But I'm worth it....and so are these originals! Curse the new Chinese MJ's.

A mini soapbox.....all for the sake of margins. Just like Koralia, when they introduced their new powerheads maybe three years ago....they turned out to be crap. They ruined their name. It looks like Maxi-Jet (Marineland) is doing the same thing. It's really a shame.

The cobalt maxis are great Paul, I ran them as my reactor pumps before building my manifold and have no issues.

The "new" MJ's are total garbage. I haven't tried the new Cobalt pumps yet.

I have one of each going for the past 2 years. No problems whatsoever with either one. The maxi has been used as a mix pump, reactor pump, WC pump, and now resides in my sons top off resovior adding Kalk water for the past couple of months.

Thanks everyone for the responses. The Sicce and Tunze do not have enough flow for my needs. And, I've found the pump I was originally looking for....the ORIGINAL Maxi Jet......Now called Cobalt MJ's. It's interesting that it is still listed as "MJ" XXXX. After much reading, this was a stipulation of the sale of the business to Marineland. The new Marineland MJ's have recieved very poor reviews, and I'm delighted that I've found the original Italian pumps. Again, thanks everyone.....I'll be ordering up two of these Cobalts (aka, original Maxi-Jets).

Sounds like a good idea. I ordered one New MJ and it rattled like crazy ...I use it to fill water jugs when I need to.

Cobalt's are on sale at BRS @ 15% off. Sorry if it's too late.

Jim, thanks for the heads up. If I was ready for my big BRS order, and hooked up in a group buy, I would have ordered from BRS. However, I did place my order for 29.99 with free shipping through Amazon, but coming from Seacorals. So I can't complain about that. Thanks again.
