I own 7 Korallia pumps of various sizes and I think they are awesome. But I seen a couple of Members using the Maxijet Sure flow Mod kits and I have to be honest, the soft start function and programability of the Maxijets is something I like so much more than the Koralia's ability to just stay on....

Price factor... A koralia 4 puts out 1200gph wide flow for $55-$60

The Maxijet is $20 + $35(magnet)+ $20(modkit)

The Nano stream is $100

All three are comparable. And I've had all three. I'm thinking i'm gonna go back to the maxijet mods.

Please help me make my decision.

I say the main difference is electricity consumed...

20w x 4 maxijets = 80w.

8.5w x 4 koralia = 34w

7w x 4 Tunze = 28w.

Over time it could put a dent in your electric bill. Also not sure but maxijets generate some heat into the tank right? So if they push you over that threshold where you need a chiller - something else to ponder.

I've used a few different models in the Koralia line and am pretty impressed with their quality and performance. My only criticism of them is that they have a tendency to not want to kick on if they've been off for a little while. I've never used the Tunze Nano but we do have other Tunze products and are very satisfied with them. We have 2 Sure Flows in our 65 and I can tell you that they have more of the attributes of a vacuum cleaner than a water pump. While it does move a good deal of water, it's really loud and bulky. As soon as I get a chance I'm pulling them and replacing them with a pair of Koralia 3's.

JME . . .

John the two tanks i've seen they weren't that loud but then again I wasn't really trying to listen for that and I was only there for a short while.

The thing I like about the Sure flows is being able to program them with the aquacontroller..... 5min on 2min off, 10min on 3min off... that type of thing.

You can't do that with either the Korallia or the Nanostreams.

Right now I have mine rightside on for 2 hours and then left on for 2 hours..... not sure if it's a big deal but then agian that's why I posted this question.

I gotta tell you Mike, the 2 we have are really annoying. The worst part is that one of them is intermitently loud so you can't even just get used to it. It'll start buzzing for 30 seconds, then quiet down for 15 then get loud for 45 then quiet down for a minute then get loud for 20 . . . It's really frustrating.

I think lithivm summed it up pretty well.

From what I've heard the sure flow mod can be loud, I'm hearing the mod made by eco is better and more reliable. I don't use them so I don't have first hand experience. I do use the Koralias and Tunze 6055's. From my experience I like the Tunze 6055's the best but very costly, the Koralias are a close second the only things I don't like is they need to be cleaned often (more than the Tunze)but not a big deal I have a extra one and just swap them. The main one is they aren't controllable. Other than that the Koralias are cost affective and have a nice flow.

The GPH for the MJ900 is pretty good, and the MJ900 uses a lot less electricity then the MJ1200.
I have the Korallia 2 and a couple MJs but without the mod.
I like the Korallia a lot, it really cut down on the heat used in the tank though it is a little bulkier then the MJ.

I think the MJ's can be turned on and off better then the Korallia so for less then 40 bucks you might give it a shot. Looking at the chart I would go with the MJ900 though.

It is a great question thanks for asking. :)

Hi All

I use 2 Tunze Nano 6045's and am very happy with them. I also use 3 MJ 1200's on a wavemaker and have been happy with them. My son used 4 MJ 1200's in his 135 tank and adapted them with the Sure Flow 1600. These are awesome...very QUIET and they move a lot
of water...so much so, he reduced his in-tank water movement to 2 Modified MJ's and gave me the other 2 Sure Flow's which I intend to use on my MJ's.

It seems that the makers of the Sure Flows were aware of the problems (including the noise) with the original adapters, and replaced them with the 1600 model for free. As I said, from what I've seen, they work great.

Haven't used the Korallia's since at the time I bought my Tunze and MJ units, several users and retailers said they were generating excessive heat. I believe that this problem has been fixed with the current models.

Re: MJ1200 heat

When I mix water in my garage (55-60 degrees ambient temp) I use a MJ1200 in a 5g bucket with no heater. After 2 days the water is 78 degrees.

Just FYI....
