Maybe its just me but....

Would you pay 4k for this? I know I sure as hell wouldn't. Not for little pinky sized nubs

Itll be gone quick... honestly every piece individually is probably between 2 and 300$ and unfortunatly worth every penny. Would I drop 4k hell no, my wife would have me living on the street with those corals in a little cup... but I could honestly say if I had disposable income like that I'd probably do it. bc when grown out you could make that money back 10 fold. And they're really insane pieces. Just the RR angry birds frag 1in sells for 900$

Wow. I guess it’s like anything. Rich for my blood. But I guess if I was a billionaire. But that’s not really the point. As a hobby we all enjoy at our own level. And I suppose it’s possible. If the hobby for someone is more about making money. Than the experience (which is fine). Than you could grow them out and make your money back and then some. But death comes so easy with these things. Pretty big risk.

If I had the proper tank and it was matured and I had a small name for myself selling frags... It's a no brainer... However, I'm a noob with still very unmature tanks. ONE DAY

Even with the most experienced reefer, it's a gamble. Look at what I just went though. I lost half the acros to an STN event in my tank in 2 weeks.. and I haven't even lost a frag for almost a year and a half prior. It happens. And when you take a hit on something that big it hurts. And of course the ones you loose are the ones that are the most colorful or delicate, which means they cost more. If I was to get them I would be praying every day that when the lights came on that none would be white lol. And once big enough to frag again I'd be making a backup for each and hopfully have a separate dedicated system that was extreemly stable. Lol. Just to much stress involved in that level of the hobby if you dont have the disposable income to match. Just my opinion of course.

How about this one. 6 single head torches 3k, although they're really nice. I'd pick the acros over the torches.

Well that’s it then. General consensus seems to be risk assessment and management, guided by how’s exactly the individual feels about the hobby and what they wish to get out of it. No mater what path you choose. There will be loss..: even if we could control every possible mechanical malfunction. And actually truly understood every metabolic requirement of every type of coral. Good olé Murphy will step in at some point and give us a good slap. For me. Sure it would be cool to simply have the hobby pay for itself and Allow me to sit back and enjoy the ride. But each and everyone of us must enjoy some level of risk beyond the average person because this has to be one of the most risk laden ventures there is... AND I LOVE IT. HAPPY REEFING ALL

Couldn't agree more. Back when I had mainland aquatics, i was a hobbyist turned "vendor" but made no money lol. Some the time i traded, most of the money I did make went right back into my tanks, with equipment, lighting, certain corals I wanted for me. And then of course let's not forget the losses. I had one order coming from jakarta and bali, 6 boxes worth.alot, I mean alot of money layed out, probably the biggest order I ever did, bc I was getting too confident with all the precious shipments making their arrival times and losses were minimal. And they got lost, all 6 boxes. Showed up 2 days later. 90% loss.. and stupid me the 10% that survived caused havoc in my system (should have QT'ed, but I knew what I was doing. Lol) that one hurt. Took me a long time to recoup that loss and break even. And then sandy lol. 'Nuff said lol.

I use the same answer to my wife’s questions regarding my old Jeep or the tank...

Wife: ‘What’s that noise?’
Me: ‘Probably about $200’
