With all that has be said about this fish, would you still keep one in your reef tank? I see a few at ACC and really intrigued.

What's so negative about this fish? They love flatworms.

They are a wonderful addition, what are your reservations about owning one?

I have never heard the clam part, though just about any fish will nip at a clam given the right conditions. Wrasses in that genus can go after CUC but their mouths are pretty small so they are not going to devastate a CUC, depending on whay you have. Same with cleaner shrimp, I think a well fed, comfortable wrasses is not going to pick off CUC, but any wrasse can be a risk.

I see. I really want one. I already have a mccoskeri and I read the melanarus is fairly peaceful.

I have one and it will go after a snail or crab if it sees it falling from it perch but it will not go after it intentionally. I also have 2 cleaner shrimp and a fire shimp that it pays no attention to.

I have one as well.....no issues....but I also have a blue throat trigger that would eat any shrimp or snails before the wrasse had a chance.

Ours lives in our frag tank.
I had much bigger problems with the joculator angel going for clams, and with the linny going after snails.

I have 2 in my display 1 small and 1 large as well as a heinochous (checkerboard wrasse) beautiful creatures sure they migh go after the occasional snail but I restock my cuc about once a year and add then at night when he's buried sleeping in the sand
