Can anyone enlighten me as to common symptoms of a bad ballast? Thought I had a bad bulb. Replaced bulb and lamp lit for first day. Then sporadically fired day 2. Now mostly flickering. Could it also be too much power drain on same circuit? Thinking about replacing ballast.

So I took the fixture apart and cleaned out the dust. Checked connections The ballast itself had some black on the outside. Regardless I put the bulb in and it fired up with no issues. Put it all back together and put it on aquarium. Went back to same behavior as before. Could orientation of the ballast play a role? In the end seems like a bad ballast.

Just to close the loop on this. I installed a new ballast yesterday. Bulb fired right up. Today the same. Looks like it was a bad ballast.
