Miracle mud?

Lookong to add this to my refugium. Anyone ever used this before? Should I iust use regular sand instead? Not sure if I can clean mud like I could sand since im thinking either or could get detritus.

I use it. But I use it as gravel in my refugium.
I mix it with sand. I don’t disturb it.
I don’t remove any I leave it alone. Every so often
I add more mud.

The pods like the mud.

I find the caribsea to be a great price on amazon

Thinking of grabbing one of these for my fuge. Might be cool to get enough to grow a couple mangroves in.

Try it see if you like it. I get a reaction for some corals when I add it to the system. I do it to add bio diversity and use it as a place for bacteria to live.

You don’t need to do anything. Some people replace it every year. I don’t I leave it alone. I have a separate tank that
I use as a refugium. I mix it with the same live sand I use for my tanks.

what does it do for the tank itself?

I use it as a different substrate. Like sand.
Some people may ask what does sand do for a tank.
I like sand and I use mud. Mud is found in the ocean so I add it to the tank. For me it helps grow macro algae.
It also adds bacteria and give more surface for bacteria to grow. It works for MY system it might not be a good fit for everyone. I also found that my pods and micro fauna like the mud.

The same way I add special soil to my tomatoes. So that they can grow. I also add mud to my refugium.

I had to read this now I’m thinking about trying it out. Lol. I just installed a separate 5 gallon refugium. Wondering if I would benefit from adding this to the macro algae tank. Man I have a problem I’m always looking to spend $$

Lol me too! $32 for a container of dirt! Maybe I'll scoop some up from the bay myself. I'm still planning on going to Belmar for macro and pods. Watching the charts for a mid day low tide.

From my understanding the mud has a lot of trace elements In it along with bacteria and a good home for pods.

I see they say you should put a layer of sand on top of mud to keep it from clouding the water. I think I may add to my second Refugium. There doesn’t seem to be any downside to using it

I had too much miracle mud and sand in my sump a while back so I removed some down to 1-2 inches...I have very little flow threw my fuge so it's fine, but if you disturb the mud it's very cloudy.

Never used it and have had great tanks with live rock and tons of pods in the past.
Can't understand why folks go for RODI, adjust and dose, cure and condition live rock, then add this stuff with random detritus and chem profiles.
If your starting with this stuff, its an expensive alternative to sand, and will end up with the same benefits and hosting abilities with a much higher cleaning/skimming profile.

But, serious advice:
Just do the sand thing.
Drop in a bottle of pods.
Drop a handful of cheato.
Train pods to kill fleas.
Over-run local 'flea-circus' folks with bravado.
Avoid assassins hired by the flea mafia.
Train pods to do circus acts (card tricks, knife throwing, jumping through fire hoops (underwater this will be a prime show factor)).
Hire all folks who earned living from flea subjugation, train them to work with pods, and threaten their families.
Crush the remaining flea competition and take your place alongside PT Barnum, but on a much smaller scale.
