MP3s to The Receiver?

AV Geek Man, Help!

I am trying to find the best way to play my huge (legal) MP3 collection over my home theater receiver. I thought I was being clever and bought a DLNA-Compliant NAS Drive (Iomega) but that's only one piece of the puzzle. (although now I can look at all my digital photos on my 52" Sony -- Awesome!) I need something that connects with my receiver and can be controlled via my TV that can see and play my MP3s. Has anyone set this up? I was looking at the Linksys Media Center Extender but that is pricey and looks like overkill to me. Has anyone set this type of system up??

Not sure if this helps either, but I use my PS3 to play my MP3's on my Home Theatre. The PS3 can see my MP3 library on my laptop and just streams from there.

Like I said, not sure if that helps at all, but it's just another idea.

Yes, the Xbox does the same trick, with some limitations (like 1,000 songs). Works great, sees the PC... But ahah! I have cleverly excluded all game consoles from the living room setup so the wife and I can actually use the TV occasionally... ::)

LOL, Jim! Sadly, I am as guilty as the kids of monopolizing the TV with games.

Brian, is there anyway to get the PS3 to recognize my iTunes library? That's where most of my music is.

You need to import your iTunes library into Window Media Player. It will keep all your songs in iTunes, just point WMP to the iTunes folder. The only drawback is that the PS3 won't recognize any songs purchased from iTunes.

FWIW, I keep all my MP3s separate and not under itunes control. Also, Apple recently offered to convert a lot of the purchased itunes to DRM-free versions, which I did, for a nominal fee. I don't know if that means the itunes formatted sonigs (AIFF?) were replaced with MP3s.

Man I'm out of touch. I just read what you wrote and it was a visual version of Charlie Brown's parents talking! I don't know a DRM from an AIFF or whatever the heck you just said!

And Brian, you'll have to walk me through that process. You'll need to talk to me like I'm a 5 year old . . . scratch that, a 75 year old! I tried what I thought you said, but it didn't work.

I think I'll just continue to use my iPod through my CD input on my receiver. Thanks for trying though!
