So i was browsing facebook and ecotech posted a beautiful glass cube tank with all sps that had a wave going. I was reading the comments and many people were saying how you shouldnt have a wave going on a glass tank because it will blow a pane out. Got me worried. I usually run on reefcrest but i like nutrient transport which incorporates the wave. Anyone have any opinions on this?

I ran a wave on a tank for over a year with no problems. Now you got me worried as well. Following along. I have 4 mp10s on my 80 NTM.

I just got 2 40's and have them linked together on wave mode... what kind of tank would a wave me safe on? I bet even on just a regular constant flow mode could blow outa pane of glass.

If the silicone can hold together those glass panes with water and not give under pressure and the glass floor not break from the weight. I doubt a pump of that size could do that unless there was some structural flaw to begin with. Lets say a poorly stacked rock that gets blown over, hits the glass and blows out a side.

I think theoretically they could blow out a panel which is why they say that. However, that became kind of a marketing thing and they ran with it. If you have seen them really throw a wave in a tank and see how it crashes around, one could say they could blow out the seems, but a lot of things could blow out the seems.

I've got 2 mp40wes in my 90 gallon running 60% lt and 75% right with no issues. I saw a YouTube video with a guy stating he broke a rubber made stock tank with ecotech pumps ,I don't think so myself but who knows. Running them at a practical setting I don't think anyone will ever have an issue

Yeah like mike said its the idea that all that pressure is smashing back and forth against the glass and that is what can cause it. Its recommended for use on acrylic tanks only, they are bonded together. I dont mean to worry anyone but i figured youd all rather know now than later.

Great I can feel my OCD kicking in. I bet I'll end up calling them as soon as they get in.

I bought a MP40 about 6 months after they were released. At that time I had a 46 bowfront. The instruction on the MP40 said to contact your tank builder to make sure it could handle the pump. I called Oceanic and the tech was amused by my question and told me that it would take a lot more then the MP40 to blow out a glass panel or a seam. I purchased a second one and ran both on the 46 in wave mode at about 70% for 2 years until I upgraded to a larger tank without a issue. I have been running the 2 MP40s now for about 6 years without any problems.

The force of the wave made by the pumps if you made an actual "wave frequency" is very much spread out and very low relative psi. Not even close of what would be needed to take out a panel at the seams.
