MRC skimmer

without this mod all the microbubbles go right in Ur sump & if u have a small
sump they make there way to the tank, one way to eliminate the microbubbles
is to use a filtersock, i don't like to use them so i came up with the elbow
design it just makes perfect sense, when i made this mod it made a
huge difference on the microbubbles going out to the sump they went
down to zero.

use the same elbows as these 1.5 u tube
u don't use the reduser on the one side the elbow slips right between
the side of the acrylic & the bulhead.

OK, I got my MRC-2 skimmer and My Blueline 55 pump going today.

with the light on under my stand.

Pump and sump Look at the flow of the return from the skimmer.

The nice part is the excess bubbles Do Not make it back into my tank ;D

Thats great no microbubbles in ur tank is one less thing to worry about.
down the road if u want to get more flow out of ur pump replum ur beckett
with flex PVC & u will get more GPH, the hose u are using now has a smaller
inside diameter.
where is ur water level inside the skimmer?

Hi Steve68,
The water level inside the skimmer is 4" up in the first riser. I came home from work today and it is Skimming ;D
So my old skimmer and pump will be up for sale very soon.

steve68 I have a question for you Is it normal for the skimmer be skimming and then for no reason stop skimming? It looks like when I first turn it on yesterday. When it was skimming it puled out some nice junk.

yes this could be do to the following
when u feed the fish
when u put ur hands in the tank
if there is something in the air & it goes in the skimmer.
once it takes a lot of the gunk out it will only do it when u
put ur hands in or when u feed, carefull with some certain kinds
of foods as they will make the skimmer freek out & overflow, this only
happends when i feed frozen cyclopeze so i just shut it down for a couple
of hours & it's fine.

steve68, Thank you for your help.
My first riser that I have my water set at 4". Now when the skimmer is skimming about one inch below the top of the first riser is where the fine foam starts is and goes up into the second riser is that OK?
I am just trying to learn this new skimmer. SO fare I do like it very much.
By the way the Blueline 55 pump is so quite that when I turn off my return pump and my fan for my hood you can not hear the pump run at all ;D

yes thats ok, i like to run the water level high to get a nice wet skimate

We run ours barely up over the base. If I ran mine that high it would run all over the floor! By the time I add air in, it fills the chamber. Steve, is your goal to have as much air as possible, or as little? Is yours a recircing unit? Does it have 2 becketts or just one?

i think that needs to be clean all ready LOL, gotta love those beckett skimmers..

Phyl i run dual becketts & it's not RC, i can run my skimmer that low but it would need to be cleaned everyday if i did that cuz it runs so dry, i run as little air as possible, the less air the finner the bubbles, i found the sweet spot on my skimmer to get the perfect foam that i was looking 4 ,
my skimmer is "set it & for get it"
the height & air volume gives me the mixture that i was looking for, it really is sad that 15 minutes after i clean my skimmer it's all ready looking nasty.
after months of use u will also have to clean the air intake holes as they will build up salt creep & decrease air volume & u will be like i just clean that beckett whats wrong !!!!!

Did you do the mod on the collection container or did it come like that?

Steve you did a mod for that as well right? When the power goes out and the skimmer kicks back on it always shuts off the overflow collector because of the initial rush of air through the skimmer.

If you come to my meeting we can have a MRC mod party! lol
