My 180 Gallon Oceanic Reef Tank - Pic intensive

Here it is - finally - this is the tank that has all that fancy plumbing to the basement - the tank is on the first level in what is the Den or family room - except no room for the family unless you count the fish..

Let me know what you think about rockwork, coral placement - I am not real good at placing the corals - there is over 350lbs of rock - mix of Fiji ultra Premium and Kalini, 650 lbs of live sand - mostly Fiji Pink (very fine white with pink particles) from AquaticsRule in Florida and about 100 lbs of live sand from the South Pacific from OceansPro in CA. There are 3 Tunze 6100, 1 Tunze powerhead and a Tunze wavebox for circulation, the return pump is a reeflow Barracuda turned down to about 2/3 of full output, 2 return lines are ties into a 2 inch rigid PVC return to a 100 gallon rubbermaid sump, 2 supplies are feed by a 1 1/2 PVC Flex (spaflex) into 2 - 3/4" lines. Skimmer is a EuroReef 12-2, system controls via a Neptune ACPRO3, controls lighting, temp, Ozone, Calcium reactor, Kalk reactor, - all probes including the DO and conductivity. I run a Phosphate and carbon reactor, automatic level control using Kalk reactor. Ultra Premium Spectrapure dual membrane RO (130GPD), 4 stage DI, Ultraviolet fresh water sterilization and an Aqua UV 54 watt UV sterilizer on tank as well. Total TDS for makeup water is 0.002PPM with approx 200PPM TDS coming in from Tap.

Lighting: Work in progress - there is a 48 inch Aquamedics Metal Halide with 2 x 250W DE HQI 10K, 1 x 150W DE HQI 20K, Fluorescent - all 54 Watt HO, 2 URI UV actinic, 2 Giesemann actinic, 1 URI/UV 10K, 1 Giesemann Daylight, 2- Catalina 20K Blue - 8 x 54W = 432 Watts of T5 fluorescent - GOING TO ADD 2 Aquamedic Pendants - 250 Watts each with 14K Phoenix DE HQI bulbs on either end of the 48" Aquamedics fixture - the Cataline T5 fixture is hung from the ceiling about 10 inches above tank, in back of Aquamedics MH fixtures - Aquamedics Metal halide fixtures are also hung about 15 inches above tank - so when I am done there Will be another 500 Watts of MH 14K - ULTIMATELY I want to sell the T5 and MH fixtures and get either a Solaris H4 or that new manufacturer - AquaIllumination and go for the LED based fixture.

Temp control - Neptune - fans for cooling, ebo jager heaters (500 Watts - basement where the sump is - gets very cool in winter - 62 degrees)

Tank dimensions - 180 gallon Oceanic - cherry finish - 72 x 24 x 24 - dual overflow - 2 3/4" returns, 2 - 1" drains - 2- large corner overflows (11 x 7)

Very very nice tank Chris. One of the nicest tanks I've seen pics of yet!

Carlo

PS It's nice to see someone else with a basement full of ozone, UV and reactors too. :)

I hope I don't get in trouble for so many Pics -

Don't sweat it. We lock members up for not posting pics. No such thing as too many pictures IMO. Keep em coming!

BTW...tank looks great! What's that big bullseye, scolly looking thing on the bottom anyway?

Stuff that I will be looking to sell/trade:

1) Mystery Wrasse approx 4"- $150 or Trade for Golden Fairy Wrasse or Lineatus Fairy Wrasse
2) Cabbage Leather - Brown with Green Fluorescence under high Kelvin lighting (14 - 20K or actinic) - $40 per multi-head rock or trade for brightly colored zoos, Polys or frags of Acan, Blasto, Micromussa, Acro - may consider other brightly colored corals/clams (hard or soft)
3) Hairy Brown/Fluorescence Green Mushrooms - 3 or 4 med/Large Shrooms on rock $10 per Shroom or priced by the piece - or trade for brightly colored zoos, Polys or frags of Acan, Blasto, Micromussa, Acro - may consider other brightly colored corals/clams (hard or soft)

Note the reason for the sale - Mystery wrasse - can't trust him with smaller, more docile flasher wrasses or cleaner shrimp, other than that he has great personality and colors - very active and easily trained (intelligent fish) - he stares at you when you are near the tank and follows you around the room.

The cabbage and Hairy mushrooms are very fast growing and multiply at an unbelievable rate - I have too many - they are not fussy about lighting or water quality (very hardy) so long as you maintain decent quality and you supplement with iodine (I use Lugol's) they love iodine and expand almost 2x the size within an hour of adding it to the tank and the cabbage send out their polyps when iodine or when I stir up the bottom substrate in prep for a water change - they love the detritus!!

Chris

I really like that Red Flame Wrasse. It's a Hawaiian fish correct?
