My 180 Starphire Cube

Well my old build thread is gone so I figured I should start a new one. The tank is 48" X 48" X 21" built by Jeff Turner of Reef Aquaria Design. It is 3/4 Starphire glass on all 3 viewing sides.

The tank in place thanks to mnat, magic, powder, and Austin.

Now if I can stop killing my SPS I will be happy :)
Now if I can figure out how to stop killing coral I will be good.

Looks great Paul, hopefully we will never have to move it again. :)

We will chat about coral this weekend at the meeting, maybe we can figure it out.

It's weird. Some SPS do great others look good for a while then just die. (so far it has been birdsnest and tricolor giving me problems). That one acro that you guys me is doing well but completely changed color. Like a light blue/ green now. Great polyp extension on the SPS that have been ok. My clam and carpet anem are doing great. I think it is mainly just my lack of knowledge / experience. I need to either get a 2 part doser or calcium reactor. I am hoping to purchase that once my other Orphek pr156 sells.

Maybe some of the other LED users can chime in here - but I would consider that if the sps frag came from a tank lighted by MH or T5 - it *may* not look the same under LEDs.

Well I got my new calcium reactor up and running last night. I will be checking my alk over the next week or so. Hopefully I will start growing some sticks!

Yea when i switched from 400mh to led some coral looked different under the leds than they did under the mh. All of them adjusted to the light fine though, didnt lose any. Some turned a different shade of the color they were after a few weeks under the led also

Well it looks like my carpet anemone had a $90 snack. I found the bones / scales in a clump right by him. Why would the angel be stupid enough to swim into the anemone? On a side note my corals seem to be doing better. My Alk is still creeping up so I may need to lower the bubble count a bit on the ca reactor.

Sorry to hear that Paul, this is one of the risks you take with having a carpet anemone. Its not a matter of the fish swimming into the anemone, it only takes a small brush against it for it to be stung and become a meal.

Paul, I can't believe your luck. After having the 180 the 70 must have seemed easy.

I am wondering if he should go. My clowns don't seem to know what an anemone is anyway. I have not touched it but I heard the sting of a carpet it pretty nasty! I didn't have much luck with my sebae. IDK.
