My Clownfish Breeding Attempt

I am going to use this thread to share what I am learning and show the progress of my attempts at breeding maroon clownfish. The fish came from Adesimone1's 210 gallon tank. The female is a maroon clownfish and the male is a yellow stripe maroon clownfish. I am excited to see if the offspring will get the yellow stripes or not.

So far, the first batch of clownfish eggs hatched last night. I don't have rotifers yet to feed them though so I feel really bad letting them die. I am excited though because I am guessing around 75-80 that survived the tank move from Terri and Anthony's 210 hatched and have been swimming around really well. More than half of the eggs didn't make the transition.

I separated some of them between the wife's 5 gallon nano and some of them in a small bucket with an airstone to give them a better chance, but I don't have high hopes for them. It is neat seeing how well they can swim considering their small size.

Here is a picture of the first clutch. The egg clutches seem to be very large.

I am hoping to be ready for the next clutch. I will keep posting in this thread as things go on.

I would do my best to keep them on the same feeding schedule and food, in order to best hope for another clutch. The clowns don't like disruption. I moved the anemone from my tank and my GSMs haven't put down eggs since. But at least if you keep the food and schedule the same they may adapt to the changed environment. Good luck! Let us know when they put down the next set of eggs. Should be within 2 weeks.

Hi Mike,

I'm glad the eggs survived the change. Phyl she is a breeding fool they lay eggs at a drop of a hat she should have 1 more clutch pretty quick. Good luck :)

Well I decided to bump the thread back up. My clownfish just laid eggs for the first time since September! I am thinking it was due to upgrading my skimmer last week to an orca 250 that I am borrowing.

I need to get some phyto and rotifers going if someone can help me out. I am hoping that some of them from this batch will hatch and make it into the refugium. With the slow turnover I am hoping one or two will make it. I will try to get a tile in there after this batch hatches to try and breed the next ones.
