The bigger one is pretty big. Tank is 75 gallons. They don't leave the rock they're under. Maybe 8 inch by 8 inch. I tested my luck with a third as they live in groups and my daughter insisted that mommy snake and daddy snake need a baby snake. When you buy a "baby snake" they come very very small. It was a risk I took and it was eaten within 4 seconds by a yellow watchman goby on the other side of the tank right in front of my daughters eyes. did not expect that. I now have a new baby snake growing out in my frag tank. Already has its adult stripes

I had two of them once, forty-odd years ago. I had a nice blue carpet anemone in the tank with them. I got the carpet from a fellow "mixed tank" keeper (as vert & invert tanks were known before anyone had "reef tanks"). He was cleaning out his inverts so he could copper his tank.

Anyway, the gobies took a quick dislike to the carpet, and proceeded with trying to kill it by covering it with sand. They were quite good at scooping up mouthfuls of sand and depositing them on the carpet. I rescued the carpet by moving it to another tank.

Caveat ~ the following data point is somewhat anecdotical: There was a guy associated with Hanover Pet in East Hanover, NJ twenty odd years ago who was apparently breeding Engineer Gobies. I never got around to asking him for any details about his efforts. I've wondered since, if they could be live bearers like the Brotula fish family, or maybe mouth breeders like some Cardinals. I hope maybe you'll find out!
