My fish are disapearing

Could it be one of these fellows. Just lost a clown who was just fine in the evening and gone in the morning. This had happened several times to various other fish.p-86421-seastar.jpgp-78634-lobster.jpg

Yes to the lobster. Shouldn't be the serpent star(if a brittle sea star than yes to that one too).
Did you check overflows, behind the tank, etc?

First off, sorry for the lose(s).

Between the two, I'd put my money on the clawed wonder. I'd also not rule out a rogue crab. In past posts with dissapearing fish, they would eventually find that they had a hitchhiker crab that was doing the dissapearing thing. Check the tank at night with a flashlight.

+1 on the crab or possibly a mantis shrimp. I saw this great show on animal planet or discovery channel about mantis shrimp recently and couldnt believe how fast and strong they are.

Yes, I checked the overflow and all around the tank including the floor. This is fish #5 lost.

starfish usually only eat weak or dead fish. I would keep that one.

I agree with Mike. I have two huge brittle stars in my tank and never had a problem with them. We did have fish disappearing for a while, though. One night, after lights out, I was looking in the rock work with a flashlight and saw a hairy gorilla crab with an anthias it's claws. I skewered that b*stard right away and hauled it out. It was only the size of a quarter but it was a killer. I lost quite a few nice size fish. After we got him out, we never lost another fish . . . . Well, that's not completely true but at least they weren't disappearing mysteriously. I would go with either the lobster or an unwanted hitchhiking crab.

I think I will do some night hunting before I remove anything. It is possible I have something else in the tank lurking about. What a PITA.
