My Refugium

I have what I would think was hair algea growing in it. The stuff is brown not green. I wanted to show some pics but it doesnt upload the way it use to I guess. Any help with that? I have a main pipe coming down from upstairs to the basement, it "T's" to the sump and the fuge. I haveit flowing low to the fuge and higher to the sump. Rocks cheato and magroves in the fuge and a Humm Humm trigger. I'm just wondering if the hair is suppose to be there or not???

First off, I find it easier to host my pics on photobucket.com and then once you have it saved there, mouse over the pic in the album and click the "IMG code" link provided. That will copy the code needed to show the pic here. Just right-click and paste that code into the reply box here... and it will show the pic for you.

Secondly, whether it's diatoms or hair algae, it's probably better to have it growing in your fuge than in your display. The whole purpose of a fuge is to grow algae that will "eat" nitrates and phosphates to remove them from your system... basically making it harder for nuissance algae to grow in your display. So, this sounds to me like a good thing.

However, considering you also have chaeto and mangroves which should be handling your nutrients, I'd say you might want to test for NO3 and PO4. Do you also have a skimmer running and/or GFO reactors running?

Ok first thanks George for the photobucket idea. Can anyone tell from these pics what is growing in there and is it correct? The first one is the sump with the Octopus skimmer and a carbon reactor. Along the side of the skimmer is a bio reactor. It only has 500 ml. of pellets in it. I have about 200 gallons in the system so I'm slowly adding more biopellets. My NO3 is at 25 or so, which is down from 50. This is really why I'm wondering if the fuge is looking proper.

that big blue thing is a pellet reactor?
No a carbon reactor. It has a BRS insert in it with carbon in that. The green thing on the side is the Bio reactor. I have it wrapped in green cardboard to keep the light out. This is a pic of the hole sump. I'm just getting use to the pic attachment process. Sorry.

Hard to tell. All your pics except the first couple are super small.

Can you just add a link to the pic on photobucket (without making it an attachment)?

Hows That? Thanks for the suggestion.
