My Turn - Ich

Not sure but think the fish have Ich. Woke up yesterday and my Yellow Lemon Peel was dead. The day before was eating an swimming fine and looked okay. Noticed white spots on one of the fishes fins last night with actinics on. So this truly sucks to battle this now and with AO sale coming up. Guess I will be missing it

This may or may not help and i have no hard evidence, but i've lost two battles with ich. Each time it took out half to 3/4 of my fish, between the disease and transfer to qt and all that good stuff. This third time, i took my time and did the qt to try and prevent the disease from showing up. Well, put the fish back in, added some new additions, it came back. Rather than panicking the time, someone told me to try out dosing hydrogen peroxide to the tank. Couldn't hurt i figured, i've used it before on algae. I dosed about 30-40ml in the morning and again at night, i have around 150 total gallons of water. The spots hung around for a few weeks or so, but were less and less noticeable, and there is not a spot on any of my fish today. Worked for me, maybe this third time something else happened and it was coincidence, it also worked in two other systems as well. Maybe worth a shot?

usually it's 1ml per 10 gallons, i started with 2ml per 10 gallons as i was familiar with it. I've dosed it all the way up to just about 1ml per gallon at one point with no harm to the fish, i can't be positive if i had corals in the tank at that time or not.

I added 7ml of peroxide to the tank. After an hour or two noticed there were black spots on the tang. Now the black spots are gone. Fish seem to be breathing easier and no rapid fin movement. Still see some white spots so will continue dosing. On the plus side my corals seemed to love the HP as they have have extended polyps.

Mad Reefer. Not going to go crazy on do's and don't of qt ing. But I don't think HD is going to cure Ick. Your fish might have built up a tolerance and its dormant for now. But Ick is still lurking. I suggest setting up a qt and going fallow for 76 days. And treating with copper or CP. I have both here in old bridge. I can give enough to get started. But you would need to act quickly. I've lost two tanks to ich. It moves fast. After the first one or two deaths

Thanks for the offer but they are to far gone. Besides I only have a 10g tank and no filter even if I did QT.
Only 2 fish surviving right now.

Update: the two fish are still alive and eating well. Still doing water changes and dosing Rid-Ich.

I have stopped the medication for about a week now and both fish are alive and eating well.

How do I know when it will be okay to introduce new fish? Do wait the normal fallow of 10-12 weeks or is it longer?

From what I gather. Ick will always be in the system unless you run fallow for 76days and treat the fish with copper or chloroquine phosphate. What u are seeing is a fish that has built up an immunity and is simply a carrier. Any new fish or stressful event can trigger and relapse back into visible ick.

You are essentially in an ick mgmt tank. Where u want to feed as much as possible and fatten the fish up. so they can fight off the ick on their own. Imho. And from experience. It will catch up to u. I lost two tanks with this method
