hey guys, im upgrading my tank in the next few weeks currently cycling and my current tank i have is a mini reef but i do have alot of unwanted pests / crap i basically do not want in the new tank sponges / bristle worms / vert snails and such so ill be slowly taking out corals and hopefully dipping them to kill off all of these dang pests

Main corals - Hammer , zoas , mushrooms , palythoas , Dunken whisker , xenias , green star poyls , toadstool these are the ones im worried about the most

also have a decent sized Rose Bubbletip anemone i would really like to clean but heard you cant dip them

any advice is good advice and yes i know bristle worms are good i just personally hate them let me know what you guys use.

heard from reef2reef people that if i remove the coral from the plug or rock and dip it in coral RX it wont kill the vermitile snail? how do you remove it effectively

Definitely remove the rock or frag plug If you're planning on dipping as things tend to hide in them.

Do not dip your Bubble tip as you're going to kill it.

I use ME dip from ME corals personally and have used coral rx in the past without any issues. I run a softy dominated tank and have dipped everything from the mushrooms to the leathers

All your corals should be dipped. The BT anemone does not get dipped in coral solutions

I remove all corals from plugs and rocks if possible . I dip corals in Coral Rx because the solution is clear and makes it easy to inspect the solution for pests. Followed by rinse in saltwater bucket #1. Next the coral is dipped into Bayer Advance, and rinsed in saltwater bucket #2. Place coral in QT for 8-12 weeks.

I’ve taken to a freshwater dip after the traditional dip (I use The Dip that was given away at Reefapalooza a couple years ago). Curious what people think of the FW dip? I do 3-5 minutes in the dip then a basin of tank water, then 1-2 minutes max in FW (RODI)

If they’re building up near my corals I crack them and let my wrasse do the rest. For the most part they don’t bother me though.

Nightmarepl, Are you using dry rock in the new tank? I started with dry pukani and though that definitely limited the unwanted hitchhikers I still had several surprises (mostly good, or I learned to see them that way lol). Pineapple sponges were everywhere early and often, long before I introduced anything from any other live system other than my CUC

pukani is a great rock but not available from dealers anymore. There is a retired aquarium store person in the Medford area who has a yard full of different rocks. I have been keeping an eye out on craigslist hoping he would post something again so i can get his contact info

Bernie sold all of his rock to a member of the club. I believe they're selling it off slowly....

Yup. Just like Ian Malcolm told us in JP....Life, uh finds a way. Anyways, why wouldn't you want sponges and such? Diversity is key to a healthy reef.
well i dunno if i had sponges looked more like pink cacoons? had like a hole in each one looked more like a nipple and alot of like web like material around it, my biggest announce is bristle worms really really hate those things also ive found little green eggs under a few corals like between the plug and coral or even in some rock holes no idea what the hell they where looked like alittle black worm inside it it was bubble algae either
