Need help picking a first acro

Finally got a metal halide on my 14g biocube. We want a yellow clown goby and I've been told that they do better when you have a few acros in the tank. So I'm looking for my first or two acros. I'm trying to avoid anything that's going to require any dosing as I currently am not doing that and would prefer not to start

I can put them near the light and where there is great flow, but need some recommendations please. I don't even know where to start. I like the birdsnest, but looks like dosing is required on those.

Then honestly stay away from acro's, all require calcium, Alk & mag to be within the proper ranges and stable, some are easier to keep than others and are more forgiving but if you don't want to test for and keep the above mentioned in proper ranges then stick with softies. Sorry if it sounds harsh, I don't mean it to be


Cal 400-450
Alk 8-11DKH
Mag 1300-1400

Also clown goby's will be ok without SPS. Actually they can be bad for SPS they can irritate the coral and pick at the polyps.

Dosing doesn't have to be hard, esp. if you have a small tank. Even a nightly kalkwasser drip is fine, or you can use a little 2--part. Eeven regular water changes will suffice. The most important thing is a good test kit, or you don't know how you're doing!
Even many soft corals won't grow w/o some calcium.

get acro (or any other sps) b/c you want to dive into stony corals (sps). if you are getting it to benefit a $12 clown goby i would stay away from it. clown goby will be fine without the sps. his welfare/doom will depend on other fish tankmates and also food sources rather than what corals are around him. imho.
