Need Help With Algae Problem

Great advice thanks guys. Next question. My chaeto was dying and I believe was the source of phosphates for the algae. Should I replace the chaeto in the sump with some healthy stuff with a new lamp? I replaced the bulbs with 6500K 75W CFL's.
Wait till the h2o2 dosing is done

Day 5 Update. The lights are back on. I cut the intensity for a while and shortened the duration. Almost all of the dinos are gone. Some of the other nuisance algae is also diminishing. I will continue the dosage till day 9 and hopefully wont need to do a regular maintenance dose. Not sure if that is even recommended.

Again it might take longer then 9 days.. keep doing it until no sign of them and do it a few days after just to make sure

I am in day 3 and noticing a very small decrease. I think I need to purchase a new bottle of h2o2. Mine may be a bit flat.

I'll take that advise. I notice my pumpkin smash is behaving odd. It blowing itself up and lifting on one side to expose the base. Hope this is not a result of the dosing.IMG_0405.jpg

After 10 days of dosing with peroxide just about all of the dynos are gone as well as other nuance algae. All of the corals and fish are fine. Just wondering if I should continue with a maintenance dose and what that dose should be. Anyone have any info on this? I also plan to start testing magnesium and other elements this weekend once I pick up the test kits. Could any recommend the most accurate? Thanks All.

Hey Joe..glad to see everything went well. I am just about done as well. I am also gonna consoder maintenance dosing. I wanna find some more info on it. In regards to test kits, I learned a HUGE lesson about phosphates. They feed algae and most test kits show "0" because the algae is consuming it so fast it wont show up on a regular test kit. It seems, and I have personally found out, that the Hanah phosphate checker is the only real accurate phosphate checking kit. Check Ebay for Hannah phosphate checkers. I you find a link on maintenance dosing, let me know.

+1 on the Hanna for PO4.

For Ca, Mg and Alk I've started to use the Red Sea Reef Foundation all in one kit. See post #1 here:
