AQUEON been around forever so it's a good tank. Reminds me of what I lost my 110g due to hurricane Sandy, got pissed, then some most of my stuff. 2 tanks after that I ended up having to buy all new equipment when I upgraded again hahah

Also,

Does anyone use the Caribsea life rock? I was also looking into that for my scape. I like the idea of having rods to help support the crazy structures.

i haven't used the caribsea life rock, so can't speak to that. but i am a big fan of than thien's thin super glue and sand method to make a solid structure. it makes some surprisingly strong connections that i haven't had topple.

i'm also a big fan of using a 1/2" masonry bit to drill holes for frag plugs. i drill more than i'll probably ever need and even the ones that don't get used look like they belong there.

So....new tanks from the big retailers are very expensive (as we all know), so I decided to go a cheaper route. My thoughts are to go cheaper on the tank, and "high end" on the equipment.

So about 2 weeks ago, I wound up getting a SC 66g Aquarium off of Amazon. The kit included: tank, stand, skimmer, return pump and tubing. For what I paid, it really wasn't a bad deal.

I'm going to use the skimmer but I will be replacing the return pump and keep this as a back up.

I have some caribsea life rock in my tank. I like it. I use E-marco 400 coralline color to cement the rock together
I have a whole hydros setup, but I don't have it doing water changes. I currently like doing my water changes on Sunday

I used to have this tank back in the day! SCA makes awesome tanks, and that skimmer was a great budget option back then. The only downside might be that it pulls a bit more wattage compared to newer skimmers, but man, it definitely skims!

When I had this setup, I ran MP10s on the back (one on each side, mid-level) and early-gen Jebao MW-10s angled up to keep the surface moving. For lighting, I went with two Kessil A350 Tuna Blues, and honestly, the tank looked great!

If I were to set it up again, I’d probably go with two Jebao gyres for the back and Jebao MP knockoffs for the middle to dial in the flow. For lighting, I’d grab two Aipai 8SEs or Nicrew Gen 2 150Ws a solid way to save some cash without sacrificing performance. just my 2 cents!

I was thinking about going with Red Sea as far as equipment goes. To me, this give me control, without having a controller if that makes sense.

I have my mind set on getting a RS ReefMat, return pump and the Red Sea Ato. Lightning is definitely a coin toss so I'm open to every option.

I was looking at the RS led's but I've seen horrible reviews on them.

I like the Hydros, and I actually hate the Apex system. I wanted an auto ATO but this tank has me scrapping that idea.

When you had it, did you keep the center brace in?

center brace? donyou have a photo?
It was only held in with 2x tiny screws so to me, it doesn't seem structural. What ot does do is add a "back" to the front doors

So a small update,

So the stand interior was this light, cheap beige veneer. I didn't care for the color of the material, so I decided to change it up a bit.

I wanted something a little more for the interior that would be resistant to the salt creep and water that will eventually get all the place in the stand.

After a trip to Home Depot, I picked up a can of Killz, and and a can of black alkyd paint to help with this. This was the closest thing i could find to a Marine Paint (like whats used for boats n what not) so I went with it.

Yesterday, I lightly sanded the veneer so that the primer had something to stick to and after that, I got it wiped down and primed.
