Need your thoughts..

So I want to start a nano tank for a pair of phantoms. Now I have the original live rock and their original water. If I get a tank for them in the nex day or 2 can I just transfer everything and act as it’s an existing tank? Or do I have to worry about it cycling? And am I better off just starting fresh?

I’d use fresh sand. If you add LR from a mature tank it’ll be MOSTLY cycled in a new tank. I’d give it about a week to stabilize before adding livestock. Make sure you’re testing for ammonia/nitrate/nitrite as well.

Thanks

At worst you will likely get a mini cycle, but if you are using the same rock water, etc and just changing the tank you should be fine. The only thing you really need to change whenever going to a new tank is the sand- stirring that up will release a bunch of bad nutrients that you want to avoid.

I agree use new sand. I tried to reuse sand and washed it the bejesus out of it and had so many problems. Not worth the trouble IMO.
