Neighbor's Rant Thread

Me & my fiance moved into a condo/apartment complex last May on the 2nd floor. A lady in her late 30's-40's lives below us. She leaves her TV on the WHOLE night. We wouldn't mind, but it's right above our bedroom. You can clearly hear the voices because it is that loud. We even sleep with a sleep machine on & it over powers that. Last month we finally went to management & told them(they told us to come to them & not speak to the neighbor). They called our neighbor & let her know someone filed a complaint about TV noise. It stayed quiet for maybe two days & went back to the same ole routine. We told management again & they said they will write her a letter. Basically after that, they could relocate us or when her lease is up not renew her. I am not going to relocate for something that can be fixed.

This morning I woke up at 4am to use the bathroom. I laid back in bed & I hear her TV. I get frustrated & go upstairs into my loft to sleep. I left her a sticky note asking if she could PLEASE turn down her TV or off at night. I'm going to be going to management on my lunch break today & complain again. Sadly, I'm keeping a log just in case I have to get the police involved. If this continues during the night I'm going to ring her door bell at that time & ask her to turn the tv down or off. I will do this until she stops. I pay a good chunk of change to live where I am.

This is just a rant. Anyone have experiences?

That really sucks!! When I lived in my condo in Hoboken the guy above me would walk like he weighed 700 LBS and it sounded like he was jumping up and down. I told him politely and he made an effort to be more quiet. Unfortunately some people just dont care and have no respect for other people.

similar situation at my apt complex. a family of 5 lives below my GF & I, 2 adults & 3 children under 7yrs old. from the time the kids come home to the time they're put to bed they're either running throughout the apartment or running up & down the stairs outside screaming & chasing eachother(mind you with no parents watching them at all). When they start running & jumping all over the apartment my floor shakes worse than the mini earthquake we had a little while back. We've complained to management & they told us the same thing, when your lease is up we can move you or move them when theirs is up. but thats not fixing my problem for the next 6 months! These kids also ride bikes on the walkway that runs along the parking lot(within a foot of cars) & I've actually seen them smash into a car before(I park far away when it's nice out lol) Same kids grab gravel from the yard & throw it off the 2nd floor balcony towards the parking lot(again park far far away). management is gonig to "write them a letter" but that won't fix the problem.

/rant over :)

change the name of the thread to neighbors rant thread & I bet we could get some good stories here.

lol, it won't let me edit my first post anymore. If a MOD would like to change the thread name to "Neighbors Rant Thread", I'm all for it.

I stopped by the management & told the she's being loud again. She said they definitely called her again, but she wasn't sure about a letter. The manager of the leasing department will be in tomorrow & she will ask.
Ironically enough my employee is getting a gun permit from the township I live in. The officer/chief/someone in law enforcement called him today & my employee told him my situation. The law enforcement officer said theirs a noise ordinance law at 10pm it has to be silent. I can call the cops on her if I want. He also said their should be a clause in our lease agreement that she could be evicted for this. We'll see where this goes.

Where in Plainsboro are you living? I looked at complexes around there.

Side Note: My fish tank is in my loft. I'd much rather here the radion fan, skimmer, & water noise then TV voices anyday.

I thought you were going to say the cops asked your employee if he was buying the gun because of your neighbors... lol.

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Unfortunately, that's one of the downfalls with renting, especially if you aren't on the top floor.

They have model apartments here. When we went to look at the first floor model they had a real family living on the 2nd floor. We could hear their kids running about which we did not like. The first floor has a finished basement & the 2nd floor has a loft. We didn't need all the space & just like the layout better so we went with the 2nd floor w/ a loft. The complex is only 5 or so years old. We don't hear our neighbors unless it's silent. Even then 98% it's the lady below us.

ah.. we looked at those. The lady hounded me for few weeks asking if we were ready to move.

crazy neighbor

I got Some Stories.

The Brady Bunch

Renting with my Fiance and 3 year old. I got 2 solid neighbors on either side of me. Apartment across the hall from mine finally gets rented. By a older husband and wife that I meet. Last time I met them though. By the weekend they are no where to be found and instead < 26 yr old Dude with his Girlfriend!?!? moves in and in minutes my apt is reeking of weed. Quick call to the cops arrests all around... no more neighbor.

Gangsta Rapper

Same issue as OP. PPl next Door at 12pm blasting Gangsta rap till 1 am 5 days a week. I borrow some concert speakers from my Frat house wait until good old Fashioned REM sleep sets in around 4 am and then BLAST IT against the wall into their apartment. Hear Lots of Cursing and Stomping. Proceed to do this for a week and then Stop. Never had a problem since.

Dirty Jobs
For a period of almost 1 month my floor was smelling like rank garbage. After a through inspection it was found that a resident was leaving bags of their garbage behind doors and in utility closets instead of walking them down to the basement and outside. After about the 5th time I opened the garbage bag searched around and found a costco flyer that had the aprtment number on it. Found a A AA renewal form and a torn up credit card rejection letter. Proceeded to take garbage upstairs open and dump it on the door frame of the resident and left a note that garbage goes outside to the garbage disposal and not onto other peoples floors.

The Spitter

Walk outside to my Car (2009 Charger SRT) to find a nasty smokers loogie on my hood. This happens 5 times in a week to my car and at least 4 other cars in range. Purchase 99 Dollar DVR Camera set from Tigerdirect and set it up. Catch person smoking from floor above mine spitting onto the car. Haters gotta hate right? Proceed to Dog Park and secure doggie doo from doggie doo recpticle. Proceed to frat house where dipping (Tobacco Dip) is common and secure Dip waste container. Instruct pledges to create

3 parts Dog Doo
3 Parts Dip Waste
3 Cups Elmers Glue.
1 Part Hydrogen Sulfide Powder
1 Small Spray Bottle of household ammonia.

Mix into Pancake Batter consistency and apply to the front door door of the spitter using gloves and paint roller. Including the knobs. Spray ammonia over the mixture on the door. And leave. That's correct. Its a Dog doo and tobacco Stink bomb. Place printout of spitter spitting on ppls cars on their door. Place screenshot of Spitter spitting in the community mailbox dispersal which lets the mail person place 1 copy in everyone's mailbox while delivering extra mail.

Yes many of my acts could be considered acts of terrorism. One can even be considered chemical warfare. No I don't care. Yes I'd do it again. No they didn't find out. Yes the actions served the purpose of stopping the nasty.

When I rented same issue with noise. Next door neighbor extremely loud and we and kids could not sleep. After asking nicely numerous times my Italian came way big time. I banged on the wall cursing them out and even in the complex. My wife too and one day the guy's wife heard me say something nasty and the guy confronted me. We had a nice long chat, yes we did talk, and things seemed better. We moved shortly after that.

It is not just apartment neighbors. My first house we had a neighbor that was crazy.

1) She complained that my house cat who ran out sometimes would come by her door and tease the dog. She was afraid the cat would give the dog a heart attack.

2) Her son stole the cat when it ran out once. We looked all day and night she never came home. My wife asked the kid if he saw it and claims to have caught it and put it between my front wooden door and screen door. Cat doesn't fit there. Turns out they took the cat 2 towns over to police who call ASPCA. We got it back the next day but cost me $100 because the town it was picked up in doesn't contribute funds to ASPCA. I screamed loud that if their dog ever got out again I was bringing it Brooklyn where I used to work and they would never see it again. That weekend the gate was fixed.

3) In a cold February they complained that the pigeon poo was stinking up their house when they opened the door and were going to call the health inspector. I told them go ahead, never did. Mind you it was there when I bought the house and I figured I would reside at some point. They never complained in the summer when it should stink in the heat. This never smelled as it was there for years before I was.

4) Storm blow piece of siding off my house and hit the car, supposedly. I called insurance company and they come out to inspect. The neighbor sees the guy and goes out there claiming that it his wife's car making a star shape chip and bounced off and hit their other car causing a scrape. Insurance guy was pissed and denied the claim. He said siding didn't do that star chip because there is a dent so it was hit with something hard but would have given some cash for it. Since they tried to pull 2 fast ones he said no way in hell.

Edit: I forgot #5

5) If someone parked in my driveway and was over their's by an inch or 2 she would get in her car and honk the horn like crazy until she had her precious inched back. She could get out because it was 2 car driveway and mine was single. She wasn't going anywhere. One time we were going out and one of teh neighbor's friends blocked my driveway and I could not get out. So I sat in the car blaring my horn and no one came out to move it. I knocked in the door and said something and my neighbor's were like what is the biog deal. Well, that wa sit I started cursing and screaming and almost had a fist fight with her husband.

Thank god they moved away. But so did I a year later. I dealt with that crap for almost 1o years.

kevin - pick your poison.

Had an elderly elderly neighbor who's family either didn't care or infrequently came to visit. For those of you who are about to go out to eat - please skip this part.
She had apparently gotten so senile that she no longer cleaned up after herself and/or left food to spoil all over the studio apartment. Needless to say in nyc this is a feeding frenzy for all kinds of nasty pests. I recalled walking up to our apartment door and as you passed hers, you'd see roaches scurry out. It was really gross. All the neighbors on the floor complained and when the super went in - he had to run out because it was that bad inside. Anyways - we spent so much money on pest control it was useless since the source was always going to be there no matter how clean our apt was. Eventually she left and then...

A single older woman moved in and she loved watching tv late at night but worse she had this very deep and boisterous laugh. Every night she'd be on the phone til late gabbing away and laughing. It was awful. So I can totally sympathize with the late noise.

Regarding Noise Ordinances, yes there are noise ordinances. But you do not have to be SILENT after 10pm. If it is merely a television then the police I am betting will not sign a complaint because it was too loud. I have gone on these types of calls many many times. If you call the cops you will get from them "you live in an apartment/condo" that is the way that it is. Now if it is that overly loud, like music blasting and you can feel the base then they will prob interfere for you. But honestly the best bet might be to keep up with the management company. The police will allow you to sign your own complaint, which you can always do. Our judge will not hear those cases first, he will send them to neighborhood dispute first to try to handle it outside the court.

Thanks for the info! I'll just keep going to the management. I helped out the leasing managers boyfriend, so that helps. We shall see how tonight goes.
