New 90 Gallon Reef setup. - Going to need alot of advice.

I have a network issue at my work so don't know when I can get out to trop to have the water tested and purchase the copper test... fish and crabs look fine...

Hey guys... well... i want to thank all of you for again coming thru and helping me figure out what the heck was going on with my tank...
I finally got to Trop last night around 5ish... tested the water and the guy told me my water was "Pristine"... except for "COPPER"... it was reading 10ppm... he asked me if i was having any issues... I told him what was happening and he said that the level is bad enough to kill off snails,coral,etc... but not hurt the fish and some crabs...
I purchased two Poly filters and put them in my sump and believe it or not my duncan is showing signs of coming back to life... yesterday there was a pinhead of green on the stem and now it's about 80% of the stem is green ... the zoe looks like it's still alive but hasn't shown any improvements...
So the copper in my tank could have been 3 things... 1. person before me used copper in the tank and it got absorbed into the silicone, 2. My tap water has it and my rodi unit is not getting it or 3. I'm an idiot and used brass fittings on my Mag pump. How many of your raised your hands for #3... You win!!!!
I'm an idiot... I had no idea that brass fittings bled copper... UGH!!!! The poly filters I put in are a nice dark aqua color...
My son is sick and my wife is working but as soon as she gets home I'm shooting over to home depot and getting the same fitting (Hopefully) in pvc...
I will continue to run the poly filters until there is no more color...
My question to you all is... how often am i supposed to replace those filters... once I see color or are they still working? At $15 each I don't want to replace every day if they are still working...

Thanks again... :)

Glad you figured it out. Never would have thought to ask that one. I would say maybe once every couple days then once every couple weeks eventually...but that is just a guess.

I will order some...the guy helping me at trop told me about it but they were out... and I'll replace the pads every three days until the color stops... Thanks guys...

Quick Update... so fish are looking good... My emerald and a bunch of hermit crabs survived... 1 or 2 snails survived... the corals don't look so good... the Zoe never opened and is just a colorless rock... with the moonlights I see a bunch of fluorescence but they haven't opened at all....the Duncan although it went from a single tip of green to about 80% green it hasn't extended or opened at all. My anemone didn't make it... Shrimp is either a great hider or he's still alive because I haven't seen him in about a week... (But I haven't seen his body either...)

On a brighter side... I put in a new Poly Pad (actually half) yesterday afternoon and as of this morning it's still "BRIGHT WHITE"!!!!! When I put the first two pads in they almost instantly changed to blue... so hopefully my copper is gone... I will keep that pad in for a week then put in the second half and if still white after that I will start to slowly introduce an anemone and some corals...

Good to hear. Nice relief to know the pads are not turning, I think the week long idea is a good one. Maybe next week get your water tested for copper again.

Hey all... looking to make a big change to my setup... wife doesn't like the sump and ATO tank on the side of my display...not to mention I happen to let slip that I wanted to add a refugium... (My sump is packed as is so I can't use that for refugium) so I have to find a good stand that has room in the bottom to put a sump/refugium and ATO...I know a lot of guys will respond DIY... but remember I'm the guy who took two weeks to grab the right pump fittings from Home Depot and then I poisoned my tank with copper... LOL!
I was hoping used, maybe Craig's list or ebay... don't have the money to do new... anyone know of someone looking to get rid of one... or maybe even a larger setup with tank... (I'll upgrade if I need to... lol)

Hey does anyone have a clue what's going on with Saltwaterfish.com? I ordered from them on Tuesday of last week selected overnight, paid extra to have it by 10:30 am and it never showed ... I've called several times, no one answers! I've left Voicemails and noone returns my calls, I've filled out support ticket and noone responded, I've emailed and noone repsonded... I checked their forums and it seems several people are complaining about the same thing... I even started a chat on their website and nothing!

Did they go out of business?

Website looks normal, will try and do some more digging.

If you need a non traditional stand, have someone build it for you if you don't want to DIY.

Update: I spoke to Mary at Saltwaterfish.com and she assured me everything is okay. They just got a surge of orders and it got a bit out of control... she apologized and told me she would ship out my order as soon as they could.
I am glad everything there is okay. I've ordered from there before and I've liked them.

Hey guys... tanks doing well... I think there is still small amount of copper in the tank... I replaced a blue pad that sat in there for a couple of days... new pad in and we'll see... I do have some snail activity... I thought they were all dead... I guess they play dead??? There is a couple on my glass now and Mary from Saltwater threw in some for my troubles with my order... they immediately starting moving around and some are on the glass.. we'll see...
So question... right now I feed 1 cube of Prime Reef, a small 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch piece of either frozen Clam/Mysis Shrimp... Mostly the shrimp... I also once in a while throw in a cube of Algae... on top of when my Emerald crab is out I hand feed him a 1/2 inch slice of green algae sheet..
I am going to get some garlic to mix in the food... but what other food do you guys recommend... how about dry flakes or pellets...
