New 90 Gallon Reef setup. - Going to need alot of advice.

Thanks...
Tank:
Ok... so the work begins... I need to purchase 2 Bulkheads... I'm guessing they are all 1 3/4 holes for fish tanks? Also should I use 1 inch pvc for plumbing return and drain? (The guy told me to buy (2) 1 inch slip on both side bulkheads, now I believe he means that both ends don't thread they need to be glued and that I should use 1 inch pvc... but are the outside of the bulkheads all the same?)

Sump/Refugium:
I Also now have a ecosystem Pro Filter System 3012

30″L x 12″W x 16″H ACRYLIC sump for 76-100 gallon tank,
(2) 13 watt PC. Lights - (didn't come with this but I want to find these and purchase)
(1) 1″+ (1) 1.5″ Bulkheads (This one has the bulkead up top but also has two drilled on either side panel... on the return side I understand they had an external return pump, but the other side not sure why... so I will cap both ends and use one of the following as my submersible return pump... (Which do you guys think... 1. Quietone 5000 , 2. Eheim 1262 , 3. Danner Mag 9.5 ?)
- Suggested flow rate of 800-1000 GPH

You know to get rid of the bio balls right? External pumps do have some advantages as you don't transfer as much heat. Eheims are great pumps and Mag 9 is your typical workhorse. You don't have to have the those lights you could just use a clip-on Homedepot light like the rest of us :D.

FYI we are doing a group buy within the next couple hours it should be posted and it will easily pay for your membership fee for the year in our wonderful club.

Didn't get bio balls...this was used... going submersible for space reasons...HD light sounds good I'll read up on which and wattage everyone uses... 1 more thing the sump and tank are covered in Coraline... should I clean it or is it okay to leave... sump is covered where refuge was and tank just on the overflow.

Not all bulkheads are the same. You have schedule 40 and schedule 80 and they require different size holes. If your hole is 1 3/4 inches (actually it's 45 mm), they take standard bulkheads....and that size bulkhead is for 1 inch pipe. Look at Glass-Holes for your bulkhead needs. If this is for a standard overflow, you definitely want slip on the inside of the bulkhead. The "outside" is your personal preference. I prefer thread so that it is easily taken apart.

EDIT TO ADD: Something just hit me....if this is a "standard" overflow, they typically have the drain at 1 inch with the return at 3/4 inches. So measure both holes. A 3/4 inch bulkhead requires a 1 1/2 (39 mm), hole.

Hey Mattez - I was reading your thread and you said you gave your sump a vinegar and water bath... can you elaborate on the steps you took... do I fill the sump with vinegar and let sit...?
Do I need to clean the Coraline on the sump and overflow box.. or is it just aesthetics...?

Yep. That link to Glass-Holes I gave you goes right to the 1 inch bulkheads and shows all four combinations. Also take note of the edit I added to my previous post. Good luck.

Hey Red... I looked at the site and I'll probably use them and wait for the shipping... went to the HD by my work at lunch and they only had 1 bulkhead and a crap selection of pvc parts... ugh!!!

Hey Red, okay i got home and measured the holes... they are all the same size both holes at the bottom of the overflow box as well as the two on each end of my sump. The sump will be easy I'll order two of the 1 inch BHs and cap it with a 1 inch female threaded caps... The question i have is the return pipe inside the overflow that comes to the top then attaches to Loc Line Nozzles is 1 inch (OD)... the drain side has some contraption and the end is 1 1/2 inches but when I looked on the site the 1 1/2 inch bulkheads require bigger holes... am i missing something ????

Freddy, I'm at a loss. Are these the pipes that originally were in this tank? Or could it be the final reducing coupling was on the original bulkheads? Isn't this a 55 gallon tank? I can't believe they would have an 1 1/2 drain on a 55 gallon tank.

The group buy will be with Champion Lighting ...great for you as you will need a lot of stuff...they have everything more or less.
