Crocea on right, maxima "ultra' on left, notice the scutes on the maxima protruding out.

First one's a crocea... the second one... hmmm. I'm going with crocea on that one too. ::)

second one is a maxima, but I think the clam was wild harvested or at least cultured, as it has a whole bunch of Liverock on its shell, and consequently, the scutes are embedded. I cheated :)

You can see the scutes better if the pic was taken at a different angle.

And I thought Maxima was the easy answer so I'd go with Crocea. That's what I get for trying to outsmart myself ;D

I found this lil' guy horizontal again this morning. I stood him back up again though before I left. Wassup with that?!
 
He probably closed too fast and just fell over or something knocked him over. Take a half shell of another clam and put the live clam on that. It's foot will attach and then it won't fall over anymore. On the sand they don't have anything to attach to.

He's actually attached to a piece of rubble right now (talk about having the tiger by the tail, lol). I wonder if he'll move from the rubble to the clamshell.
