New Koralia Evolution 1400

Just picked up a new Koralia Evolution 1400. The motor assembly is noticeably smaller while the magnetic mound now has a rubber shock-absorbing portion that adds a half inch or so. Also claim slightly more flow while using less juice. I definitely like the smaller profile. Here’s a picture of the 1400 versus an older K4.

James, I haven’t actually tried sliding it on the older mount, but it appears to be the same size post. I would guess that the rubber shock absorbing component removes any chance of vibrational noise through the glass.

Makes sense, looking forward to trying the new one. Ironically one of my K4 is bit noisy, I have a feeling I lost one of the small washers :-[.

Does it chatter or click (impeller moving back and forth? If that's the case take the front of the K4 off and cut a piece of airline tubing and place it on the shaft in front of the impeller so it fills in the space were the shaft is usually visible.

Here’s another thought for the new base. These new Korialias may be used with wave-makers. I’m assuming that means that they can be turned on and off repeatedly. Maybe this new base dampens the torque and noise associated with constantly be turned on and off. With the old base, maybe this constant torque caused excessive noise or movement of the unit. I’m just guessing. But now I can’t wait until the next PA Group Buy….I think I buy a few more and try out the wavemaker feature on my overpriced timer…I mean my RK2

No it oscillates a bit. I think it is one the washers, I spoke to their customer service and that is what they suggested it would be. I am pretty excited about the new pumps too.

Makes you wonder why you would buy the old controlable K4s?
And if their controller unit will come down in price?

Are you saying the the Koralia controller is the only controller that could be used with these new powerheads? I won't be able to use my RK2?

Paul

The first Koralia pumps were not supposed to be controlled by a wavemaker, the second line of pumps were controlable but required their controller. The new generation is a lower voltage model with a soft start feature and is supposed to be compatible with all controllers.
