Mine are close to zero, and no Phosphates either, any way to bump them up a bit- been adding sps corals lately

I dose 100 ml of neonitrates and still dont get too high of a reading but no diatoms or anything showing up, so a necessary evil till I can tweak things I guess.
Seems silly adding nitrates when so many kill em selves trying to export.

do you dose phyto or have macro algae?

Wondering. I used Reef Roids before and had a major phophate spike/ algae bloom, so I switched to Benepets- would switching back help with getting nitrates back up?

Reefroids would add phophates with nitrates, however it seems that it raises phopahates more then nitrates / or just that our tanks are more efficiently absorbing the nitrate and leaving the phosphates. Which can stress corals and cause them to slow growth, therefor letting more phosphates build

So, I take it, no lol- but I have no phosphates- or negligible, may feed with roids tonight- test tomorrow while waiting for the neonitrates

I found myself in the same boat.
Early on I was trying to raise cheato algae. Super unsuccessful. It would just waste away.
No kidding. Not enough nutrients.

I was getting my glass covered overnight/2 days with diatoms.
Zero/low nitrates and phosphates under 0.25. use API/Red Sea...so eye ball method.

Tried skimmer on and off at certain times. Also tried leaving my filter socks in a few extra days till they result overflowed instead of just 3-4 days and discolor.

Upon suggestions I tried feeding more and dosing reef roids daily or several times a week.

Nitrates went to about 20ppm. But phosphates were over 5.0!!!
So that couldn't continue.

So lastly have been doing 8oz of phytoplanton daily and adding 100ml of NeoNitro.
Sadly I Forgot to test before my 30 gallon water change yesterday. I tested this morning and nitrates about 5ppm. Phosphates between 0 - 0.25ppm.

Using the Redfield Ration way of looking at things...it's close to the 16:1 ratio and NO diatoms, and for the most part things look happy and healthy overall.

Soooo. Will continue the daily phyto and 100ml NeoNitro for the week, and will test before my next water change. See where I settle out after a week of dosing the stuff.

And need a cheaper option than NeoNitro, cause that $30 bottle ain't gonna last long.

Actually doing a little reef chil and mysis mix for a suncoral I am trying to nurse back. Currently about 4-5 heads and all are transparent. Feeding at night when most others are sleeping except the stupid shrimp. So annoying...

I started dosing with Noenitrate but am wondering.... I have a combination of coarse/ medium foam, chaeto and ceramic discs in my sump- would it benefit to replace ( a little at a time ) the ceramic discs with bio balls to increase the nitrate level

When I started the hobby in 2012, it was a major struggle to control nitrate and phosphate...2021 it’s a struggle to raise levels...I personally like the idea of over filtration and having to dose as needed. Much more precise in my opinion.
