njreefers on google redirects to malware/spyware site?

Hello all,

Has anyone else had an issue where if you search for new jersey reefers club on google and click on either of the first two links that you are redirected to a malware/spyware installation site? I think it has to do with a redirect in the root of new jersey reefers club and the fact that the forums are located in the joomla directory. I could be VERY WRONG and I am sorry if this is only happening to me... I just want to check and see if anyone else gets this.

Clear your cache completely.. It will not happen if you have visited the site before. Once you get here it does not do it any more.. clear your cache, close your browser, reopen it and go to google and give it another try... thanks.. If I am here once it does not happen again...

Well, here is what happens for me... and just with this site..

if I go to google and type in new jersey reefers club after the browser cache, cookies, everything has been deleted in IE7 or FF and then click on either of the first two links in google it takes me here

However, if I copy and paste the url

to a cleared cache NEW browser window.. I get the forums just fine. Now, I can't imagine that I have anything on my machine.. I use NOD32, FF, WinDefender and Spybot, plus everything is uptodate. I don't care to use any other program. I also ran a hijackthis.de/en and used the autoruns tool to check if anything was hiding some place. I really feel that this is a problem. I am in no way doubting that it is not happening for you. I am just saying that this behavior is strange and should be looked into, especially since the version of joomla that NJRC is using is so old.

All I am asking is that the mods, owners look into this.. :D

I tried a google search, and clicked on the results. No problems on my system.

I suspect that you (mynd) has one or more viruses or other malware installed on their system.

I recommend doing the following -

If you have antivirus software, make sure it is up to date and do a full scan of everything. If you don't have antivirus software, there are several programs you can use that are free for non-commercial use. Here is one (offsite link) - http://www.avast.com/index.html If you want the free for home use version download from here (offsite link) - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Once you have any possible virus problems cleaned up, here are two other tools to get rid of the malware (offsite links) -
Spybot Search and Destroy at (offsite link) - http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html

Ad-Aware at (offsite link)- http://lavasoft.com/index.php If you want the free for home use version download it here (offsite link) - http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

I recommend installing and running scans with both programs. They go after slightly different things. This should clean up most problems with viruses and malware.

Thank for the information DaveK as I appreciate you taking the time to write all that. I however, can assure you that I do not have malware, spyware, or any viruses on my machine, ever. I have contacted ESET on this to check out new jersey reefers club site. I feel strongly about this. This type of malware is PUSHED from the site server not on anyone's machine.

It looks right until you click on the links. Then one gives you mal ware and the other is some sort of naked pics :eek:. This is on my work PC were I am quite sure it is not spy ware on my computer. What are the chances Mynd and I have the same issues?

We're actively researching this with our web/host-masters to see what's going on. As soon as we have anything we'll let you know.

Thanks for pointing it out. I don't google NJRC so I've never run into this.

I just googled the site and it doesn't affect me. Very strange.

My water parameters for my pc: ;)

windows 2000
Firefox 3.01
IE 6.0 (maybe the version is the culprit?)

Anyways - I get the same results as mynd and JR. It doesn't matter what you type in the google search - this link www.njreefers.org or www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26, both get hijacked and redirected to places that are inappropriate.

Clicking on "cached" or "similar pages" works as it should - no redirection.

Here's a screen shot - everything looks normal - it's only after you click on the link does the redirection happen:

it's weird I just redid my computer last night so I know I'm not affect with any virus or malware. It doesn't do it on FF but it does happen on IE.

Just went to Google and typed in NJ reefers club. The first couple of links refered back to the right website. There was a njreefers.com that went back to the unwanted (porn)website.

Issue should be resolved, but we'll need to do a forum update to (hopefully) protect against this hack in the future. That will be happening real soon now.

I'm going to guess a bit... Possibly this problem could be related to IE?

I'm using Firefox myself and don't have the issue.
