NNJ tank drillers!

anyone in NNj drill tanks? If i buy a AGA non Reef ready tank i want to see my options before i decide on an overflow box. thanks for any help!

I have drilled quite a few tanks myself, its not that hard. Just take your time and don't use any pressure. I just drilled a new refugium last night. 2 1" bulkheads took me about 15 minutes.

I've been researching drilling the 46gal bow I just picked up from Bill. I plan on doing a coast to coast overflow setup. I was considering buying the bits off a guy on ebay, but only because he offers bits that have a pivot bit. Since this is my first hole I figured it might be safer? Is it just a waste of money?

the bottom of the tank says tempered glass do not drill. does that mean it's tempered all the way around? the guy i bought it from said it wasn't but i'm still iffy. he didn't look like he does my research ;x

I don't think most tanks (from some research) are tempered on the sides. It seems like the consensus is that most, if not all, AGA tanks are only bottom tempered only. If anything, I would guess they only temper the bottom for cost reasons.

It does seem like a few people drill the holes and then have it tempered.

What's the major benefit besides it not splinter cracking? Wouldn't the temper glass just come off in pieces then or does the extra strength really make it difficult for any cracking to occur?

If you get cold feet, send me a PM, we can do it for you.

I could do it for ya if you get stuck, I wont travel to far. Im in the middlesex area or bring the tank to me if its not a monstrosity. I have 38mm 45mm and 60mm holesaws.

i actually can drill tanks as well and you can easily do it as well. buy the diamond bits from ebay and look up how to drill a tank on youtube! thats all i did. oh, and make sure the shaft of the drill is not bent or wobbley(from dropping it).
