Noisy Sump...lots of air...suggestions?

So this is my first time having a sump setup on a tank, and it is a little noisier than I'd like. It seems the overflow is pulling a lot of air down through...so in the sump it's like a kid blowing bubbles in his drink with a straw.

Here is the setup in the tank:

...and here is a quick video of the sump:

Any suggestions?

Post more pics of the plumbing. I had air and bubbling in my sumps drain chamber at first. I realized the horizontal pipe was running slightly uphill. I tweaked it to run downhill and problem solved.

Do you have holes drilled in the caps of your Durso? If not, use the thinnest drill bit and make a hole in the end cap and continue increasing the diameter until it is quiet.

The sump is getting a filter sock/holder soon, and eventually will have a skimmer...don't think I need it until the tank is at least cycled.

Thats interesting, actually. I think I might be able to test that pretty easily. Thanks! :)

1/4 in tubing sometimes it’s stiff . Put in hole on top of the pvc in the overflow mine is like a foot coming out of the pvc with hole. Just put it in a little bit! Look below!

Ok, so am thinking about replacing the drain hose with a pipe...it's pretty much a straight shot to where the sump is, and where I can mount a filter sock.

Would the pipe terminate above the sock, or in the sock? In the water or above water level?

Thanks!

Even if it's a straight shot you still need to add something for an air release or you'll get gargling and possibly flushing noises.

Understood. The nipple isn't quite the right size for the RO hose.

Is the premise that the hose should go down into the water stream? Why would a hose on the nipple be important?

Thanks!

Yes
The hose allows for an air release inside the pipe,I believe it helps to regulate the water into a better stream with less resistance.

If you drill out the top of the downpipe you can accomodate whatever size tube (it doesn't have to be rigid, it can be normal airline).
If you then take a piece of this and insert it through the hole and down into the water flow (to the sump) it should help stop the gurgling.
You can actually move the tube up and down to find the 'quiet spot'.

Tried that and didn’t have much luck. I only used a foot or so. Maybe I needed more?

I put a valve in when I was messing with it today and closed it a little and now she is quiet but the filter sick looks like a skimmer.BA52C341-19BF-4198-8B13-7D264A1C75B8.jpeg
