OOOPS!!!!!! I forgot to turn OFF .......

I drove home yesterday thinking that I had to make some RO water since I was running out. I got home around 5:30pm and headed straight to the basement and started to fill a 5 gallon jug. Went up stairs, ate dinner, play with the kids, took a shower and went straight to bed. I woke up today at 5am, got dressed, checked the PH and the Temp on the tank and went to work. Got out of work early (2:30pm), ran some errands and went home. Arrived home around 3:30 and sat down in front of the tank for about 10 to 15 minutes. I decided to work on my sump since I got a new skimmer. Went down to the basement and screamed HOLY "$#!*". By now you know that my 200 GPD RO/DI unit has been running and overflowing a 5 gallon jug. OOOPS!!!

That's the exact reason I got a float switch. I can't tell you how many times I did that...most of the time I would be at work and then all of a sudden a light bulb would go off in my head and I would be like OH NO! (well, not OH NO exactly, but you get the point!)

Yup done it a few times myself, now have a float switch on my storage container.

me too!

Imagine doing that upstairs with 140 gallons of freshly made RO water only to seep down to your neighbor's condo downstairs....and when the knock came on my door? I opened it with a smile and said, Hey, what's up? Flood? No. There's no water here, see? Hardwood floor's all intact.......Uh- Huh, must've been the pipes that run between your ceiling and my floor....weird! Sorry dude, nothing up here :)

i've done that before lol now put the jug in the sink in case i forget about it. I also set my alarm on my phone always a good reminder. Went to bed got up a 4am to go to work the next day and found a river in the basement that sucked to clean up. At least it got the blood going before work lol

Been there done that! ;) Welcome to the club! ;D Made me go buy a float switch! Then one time after, The cord from my mixing pump caught the float and held it open  MAKE SURE CORDS ARE WIRE TIED OUT OF THE WAY 8)

The flood club...I had forgotten about that...I think I used to be the President of that! lol

I think every reefer should own a wet/dry vac. It's been used a couple times this year. I second (or third) the float valve idea, along with an ASOV on the RO unit, it's a blessing, I never flood the garage anymore. Not that way, anyhow.

Done that, more than once. What's worse? Is when you're an hour away from home and the thought suddenly pops into your head, "I forgot to turn the RO off."

From that day forward, I always set my 6 gallon jug down inside a 20 gallon plastic tote. It's not as good as a float valve, but it buys me a lot of time should I forget.

Another problem now, during the winter, is disposal of waste water. I usually just route it over into the air conditioner's pump, but that doesn't work during the winter because the discharge line will freeze. So, I route the waste over into an old 55 gallon - which I overflowed last week

Thats becuase you didn't put the 55 gallon in a 100 gallon container. If you did, it would had save you lots of time. ;D
