Opae Ula

Interesting...

These Opae Ula are locally breed in USA. Genetics and health matters that's why breeding stocks were carefully selected to be able to produce full bright red color of offspring. Buyers are ready to breed their own Opae Ula and build their own culture on their own in no time.

Opae Ula are the most amazing creature that most people will ever see in their lives. Not only does this extremely rare shrimp live to be over 20 years old, but they survive in extremes salinity, temperature, light and even nutrient pollution. Hence, these shrimp have evolved to be one of the toughest creatures around as long as they are not poisoned with ammonia in an uncycled tank.

Opae Ula are best kept at brackish water (half fresh half salt water, salinity ~1.008) they can be kept in 1-3 gallon sized container that do not need any water changes and infrequent feeding. All you need is to provide about 8 to 10 hours of
sunlight or artificial light for algae to grow as their food source and top off evaporated water with reverse osmosis, distilled water or bottle water. Opae Ula are unlike other shrimps, their full grown size is around 1cm (half an inch). The sizes that buyers will receive are in the range of 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch (0.7 to 1 centimeter) and they will be shipped in brackish water (salinity ~1.008). If buyers would like to keep these Opae Ula in either complete fresh or saltwater, they will need to gradually adjust the water salinity to avoid sudden salinity shock. Opae Ula shrimps are not cherry shrimps nor peppermint shrimps, there are no other shrimps can live in low maintenance system for 20+ years other than Opae Ula.

Temperature: 64-85 F (IDEAL 73-79)
Salinity: 1.000 to 1.025 (IDEAL 1.008 brackish water)
Lifespan: live to 20+ years

Diet: Graze on tank algae or tiny amount of flake food every once a month (optional)

These shrimp are sometimes known as volcanic red shrimp. They evolved to live in pools formed by lava which vary in salinity due to rain and evaporation. These are the shrimp they put in those eco-spheres. I myself had an eco-sphere where the last shrimp died after six years, and that is not close to the record!
